Lol poor My Baby. But tbh I think I've heard that song once.
That's me and Dear Diary. The second that song starts with "Dear Diary...today I met a boy" I just nope out. I think it's the one Britney song I've never heard that song in full.
I love listening to Britney's discography in order because the transition from "dear diary" to "slave" is AMAZING. she was like "I'm here and i'm an adult now" - it's worth it to listen to dear diary just for that lmao
I rly dislike the “in retrospect” of things. At the time, besides pop fans she was getting so much shit. Now it’s “we see the vision” with some blithe high score lmao spare me. When I think back to the lack of empathy and understanding as well as misogyny (internalised) too - it’s sick. I remember fighting back against that but also being swept up in it. Thank fuck for growth but to what end, yk?
every sunday pitchfork does a retrospective review of an album that they didn't cover at the time it was released, so this isn't a reassessment like they've done for albums like born to die. i don't think they've ever reviewed a britney album, actually!
The FS/LS album is a good album but the writer is right about it being of its time whereas Britney was looking towards the future.
Which accurately reflects the fact that Justin while having good songs has become a nostalgia act, while Britney for all her woes and setbacks, her music is def not a nostalgic act, still fresh and influential.
I remember reading that Britney was ahead of the game because she was already experimenting with the electro pop and dubstep sounds 1-2 years before it hit the mainstream.
Looking back on it... quite besides the fact that it was abusive, I now wonder if the residency didn't prematurely shift public perception of her out of being the front edge of pop. Her music wasn't ever lapsing into nostalgia, but the focus on it being a hits show rather than supporting new material I think maybe put people thinking of her past rather than her present .
At the time I thought it was positive that she was changing the perception of Vegas acts, making money and having an easier schedule than an international tour, but I do wonder if there wasn't a double edge to that sword (again besides what we now know was going on backstage)

Whatever album Tiny Hands was on, I still haven't listened to that song in full.

I'm not sure I've listened to it all in full but I'm remedying that now. Get Back is promising so far!
