So, it starts with this tweet by Laci Mosley - known for the podcast Scam Goddess which ONTD loves very much and highly recommends. Laci says

My mom is an AKA I’m not because Jodie turner smith (long story) but they are hoppin on calls with political leaders in 2 hours. The girls are MOBILIZING. Hahaha

I’m confused how her scamming people would be part of the entire chapter getting shut down. Unless other people were in on the scam with her, it sounds like expelling her was an appropriate response. I get why the hazing allegations would get them shut down, but the scamming part doesn’t make sense.

But I know nothing about sorority life so I could be missing something

As someone who was in srat culture but non D9, it's probably a combo of things. Unless Jodie was the treasurer or somewhat in finance, she shouldn't have been taking money, and that would probably lead to an investigation of the chapter leadership and advisor(s). If this wasn't reported correctly, I could see them suspending lite for that, that or it was more than just her 'collecting' and essentially making the sorority look bad. If there was hazing enough to be reported, the combo would lead to a full investigation. If before her the chapter had been investigated for hazing, fraud or both, that's a pattern of behavior that could get them shut down. Since this was a single letter chapter (ie one of the original 24 chapters), they probably have a lot of expectations put on them. On the other hand, that means their alums are probably pretty extensive, so you have to assume it was bad bad or an ongoing pattern of behavior that AKA could not allow to continue
