The author thinks the new Star Wars show 'The Acolyte' is just not a good show, on a writing & acting level: "It has the energy of a daytime soap."

You do have the terrible side that gripes about POC and women that we should just ignore (youtube makes it so hard omg go away) but there is the side that's just asking for better writing and lightsaber fights.

Admittedly I've only seen the last episode for reasons 👀 but they got me for the second half. Let's see how it goes. I don't have high hopes. Ahsoka burned me out.

I caved and started Ahsoka but got to the second episode and stopped. It might get better and I should give it a shot like I gave Rebels a shot. It’s just so hard when I know there won’t even be cameos of certain characters and Hera was horrible casting.

I've watched a lot of supposed ¨critics¨ on youtube who keep saying that no one can criticize content for fear of being called out for their ¨isms¨, while actors, directors, writers, etc. who are part of a marginalized group or stand up for them are threatened and have to deal with vitriol every day but YOU think you can't criticize a series because it's bad? Like the Interview with the vampire fandom is full of braindeads and I’m so happy everyone on the production team just ignores those losers. I feel like I’m back in 2016 with how were being bullied into make things white and male again.

Am I crazy for thinking the show is totally fine and even fun? Sure it was slow in the beginning but most Star Wars is. Like we know what the real problem here is. I wish I could be miserable staring at Manny’s arms but alas I'm built different.

Agreed. Most of the Star Wars shows are BORING or you have to rely on extended universe/cartoon series knowledge to really appreciate it.

I like the story, characters, & general pacing of this show so much more. I do think there are negatives but not enough to make me stop watching

I haven't watched it yet, but the quality of the critiques on my timeline is not convincing me it's as bad as claimed.

"The Sith were extinct, this is bad writing!" is the most resounding cry and I just... yeah, you're either too stupid to be allowed to watch a television or scrabbling for a legitimate sounding cover story because you know you can't complain about diversity. The prequels were not exactly subtle about rumours of the Sith's demise having been greatly exaggerated.

Yeah I mean I do think it’s coming but I was more referencing the idea that the sith can’t be back because the Jedi thought they were extinct when they most likely weren’t

This is how I felt with The Last Jedi!

I had genuine criticisms of that movie but if I ever told people I didnt like it, they lumped me in with the incels who also hated it

I didn't love it either but tbh when a movie or show is already getting a lot of sexist, racist, etc. type of hate I keep my mouth shut lol. It's always an option! (Lbr tho Rise of Skywalker was so much worse)

It's annoying because I think the Last Jedi itself is quite racist in it's handling of Finn/elevation of Kylo but there's very little room to discuss that either.
