So, it turns out this was Brazilian fans, and I don't know why this was a thing???? She's dine plenty of shows since BRAT dropped and nobody ever took it to this level. Was there something that happened with Taylor and Brazil? I know Charli wrote a song about Taylor but nobody anywhere else really took it to this level at a show. So wtf?!!?

It probably has nothing to do with it and I don't like mixing tragedy in these type of things. But that one fan that died due to the extreme high temperatures last year was Brazilian.

Nah, this existed before the incident. That being said, many pop music Brazilian fans dropped/were disappointed with Taylor after Ana's death so it might be one of the reasons why Taylor was so targeted. I still think it's more because of the conservative Swifties than anything else.

We've used "Person X is dead" for ages but the Taylor one is escalating more than the others because swifties are responding to it with insanely homophobic/serophobic tweets + a bit of stan war after the UK album charts from last week

But would Taylor do the same if Swifties attack Charli xcx though?

As far as I remember, I've never heard of Taylor asking her fans to please stop attacking the people who attack her or even those who just don't like her. I bet she really loves reading her rabid fans comments and death threats.

She told fans to be nice on the internet and not attack John Mayer when she re-released Speak Now, but other than that yeah she's been quiet.

Truly, what is wrong with people? You can dislike someone without wishing death or violence on them, it's super easy.

sympathy is a knife isn’t even really a diss track lol. the only line that’s kind of mean is about not wanting to see the subject of the song backstage at her boyfriend’s show, but in the context of the song being about how insecure the subject of the song makes charli because she’s so successful and powerful it’s a bit of a compliment.

good for charli for calling this behavior out!

but on the flip side, ive seen swifties say wildly homophobic things about charli’s fans so that also needs to stop. stan wars don’t need to involve racism or homophobia or death threats like this really isn’t that serious. as silly as arguing over chart positions is, that’s a million times more preferable.

Exactly. She's actually praising Taylor, like?

For someone as calculated as Taylor, you'd think she'd realize at some point that never calling out your fans is a bad look for you! Especially if when celebs call out theirs. But since Taylor wants to the armies ready for whenever she needs to attack and harass people she ignores the children's bullying.

Funny enough I saw a Taylor-related post on People magazine's IG and I think it was on this topic and a good chunk of the comments were commenting "cult" and "🐑" which is funny to see cause it's like okay somewhat validating that even people outside of stan twitter pick up on it too.

She's the architect of her own backlash.

Yeah I think a lot of other artists call their stans out? Off the top of my head I also remember Selena and Ariana did it recently, and while ONTD can argue over whether or not they really meant it they at least said something. I only remember Taylor saying it before Speak Now rerelease and only because John Mayer had started reposting the death threats Swifties were sending him publicly, so a lot of Swifties took it to mean don’t harass John but everyone else was fair game (which kills me bc John is awful! He deserves it more than Handsome Joe lol)

So I think she’s kind of starting to stand out due to the inaction while other artists are acting on their fans’ behavior.
