Honestly fuck them and vogue for promoting commercial surrogacy

“ I don’t have the ability to carry a baby anymore, so if we want to build our family, this is our option.” This comment from her didn’t sit well for me.

Anyway, cancer is a nightmare and I hope she continues to recover from it all.

You already have a healthy child. You are not entitled to more. Be happy you are alive and don’t take advantage of another woman just so you can do what ???

Honestly I don’t get why people in this situation automatically go down the surrogacy route. If you’re that desperate for more kids (and if you already have one of your own), why not adopt?

As much as I side-eye how it occurred and while I don't think having a bio-kid is everything, I do have to marvel at the sheer amazing luck she had of having a healthy pregnancy and baby so soon ahead of this diagnosis and these treatments that eliminate the chance of another pregnancy sans intervention.

women do really have to think of the clock when planning their lives. we have such a short window.

It isn’t fashionable to say so, and science (aka money) widens the window marginally, but it’s a fact.

I can't even begin to imagine how scary a diagnosis like that is. Cancer really fucking sucks.

I’m glad she seems to be doing well, but this whole story breaks my heart for her and her son

Me too, I hope she’s able to work through her feelings of guilt

Hopefully getting to be with her son now will help with that.

This is my 9th Mother’s Day without my mom so it’s definitely playing into how this story is hitting for me

Surrogacy aside, the good thing she highlighted is that mammograms are not 100% foolproof. A few years ago I went for an unrelated CT scan and they found a dark spot in my chest - turns out it's nothing worrying, but mammograms never spotted it. You really have to do everything, the regular physical self-checks and don't depend entirely on one scan.

I had an abdominal CT and all my doctor told me was that there were no gallstones. She didn't mention the radiologist's note of gallbladder wall thickening and scarring (both signs of inflammation) or inguinal hernia. I'd been having unbearable pain in the upper right quadrant for a year and no one told me that while there was not an active infection or gallstone, there was evidence that something was going on with my gallbladder. I only knew because I read the report in my online portal. So even when the tests show things, doctors can be so narrowly focused they don't mention incidental findings that can be important.

Oh 100%. It definitely depends on which doctor you get.
