Hailey Bailey?

She needs to start a club with Halle Bailey and Halle Berry.

It reminds of how on modern family they said if Haley married Andy, she would be Haley Bailey.

"Users are sharing the importance of subjecting these celebrities to the “digital guillotine” or the “digitine.”"

so another word for cancelling.

I got to give it to them, digitine sounds cooler than cancelling.

maybe it's because i've been reading a lot of dystopian books lately, but digitine immediately pinged me as an authentic sounding revolution term lol

It’s true that a lot of people have been silent on the Palestine events, but there’s at least two other major conflicts in the world right as well, and sadly, that’s nothing new. I’d guess that the same has been true as long as the Met Ball has been happening, so what makes it so egregious this year compared to others? Also, are we all supposed to avoid all happiness and kinds of celebratory events at all times something sucks in this world because others are suffering? We’d never have an opportunity to celebrate if that was the case. I’m not saying that being aware of others and their suffering and global events isn’t important and that we shouldn’t do what we can, but this seems a bit over the top. The post lists Taylor Swift as a popular choice to unfollow but she wasn’t even at the Met Gala. Idk, the whole influencer piece here seems performative. We can be aware of global events and disagree with celebrity lifestyles and excess and also enjoy superficial things like fashion and following celebrities whose work we like.

Idk if you’re in the US, but maybe the campus protests, the banning of TikTok, celebs out there losing their jobs like Melissa Barrera while the Amy schumers & Noah Schnapps are literally being lauded by magazines as they’ve said the most horrific stuff within the last year.

Maybe that. Maybe the increasing wealth inequality, or perhaps that social media has truly opened our eyes to everything.

I think that what makes it different this year is that people are getting more and more tired of this shit while their lives get more unstable and insecure (inflation, wars, global warming, etc). Maybe this particular creator isn't to blame (or shouldn't bet getting that much hate, idk) but for some reason it ignited that anger and worry that people feel and this is how this movement started. People are just angry and rightfully so. Just so you get an idea in my country, the price of the MET Gala ticket would allow me to pay rent... for 27 YEARS.

I do agree with you that we shouldn't avoid happiness, I understand that, but maybe the general public doesn't care about celebrities happiness when they're so tone deaf? idk honestly
