I love it when they do this kind of format for the elimination challenge. This episode was really good, though maybe the dancing sausages are swaying me. I'm not looking forward to next week. Maybe I'm in the minority but I hate restaurant wars.
Just gonna take a moment to fangirl over Michelle. She's so talented and beautiful and her smile is just so warm and welcoming. My crush grows each week. When she said she used to play softball....girl, don't play with my hopes like that lol.
I hate restaurant wars too. I know the show acts like it’s this necessary tradition but I would love if they dropped it.
I remember in the early seasons, restaurant wars always resulted in contestants saying they had no desserts in their repertoire which seemed like a dumb yet deliberate choice to come on the show unprepared.
Oh good I'm not the only one. Everyone else seems to love it so much? And it's consistently the worst episode each season to me that I always fast forward through most of it. And nowadays too many people get eliminated for dumb front of house stuff.
OMG yes, eliminations for FOH stuff really annoys me because this show is Top Chef, not Top Front of House. While I understand that sometimes being a chef/having your own restaurant requires more than just designing a menu and executing it, that's really all I want to see from the contestants. Even if the FOH mistakes are the fault of whichever chef got that role for restaurant wars, that's still really not what the competition is about
( ... )
I wish they had done a better job of introducing the full judging panel tho, I was pausing and googling trying to figure out who the local chefs were on the baseball field.
It seems odd that the show makes sure to give full introductions to the quickfire guest judges ("This is Jane Doe and she's the owner of Restaurant X") but the guest judges for the elimination challenge are given one quick chyron while they're talking to Tom/Gail/Kristen and that's it.
I had to laugh when Danny said he made sure to look directly at Laura when he told his team that they each needed to stick to their budget after the shit she pulled with her dessert ingredients. I also noticed that during one of the previous quickfire challenges, Dan couldn't find any chocolate in the pantry provided ingredients so he started asking everyone in the kitchen if they had seen the dark chocolate. He finally found some at Laura's station because she had it and chose not to speak up to say she had some or offer any to him. I get that it's a competition but I prefer a level playing field. Hogging ingredients is not against the rules but it's also a shitty thing to do. If you think you have to do things like that in order to win, maybe you should just cook better food.
All of this!! It makes it hard to root for her when she’s being so selfish.
I also lol’d at Danny and in my head he had lasers coming out of his eyes towards her. Now that I’m thinking about it, I can’t decide if Danny or Amanda is my third fave.
I also enjoyed that part. Danny was still steamed over getting short changed on that challenge. Laura doesn't seem like a nice person.
I'm late to this, but something else bothered me that I wanted to note here. Kévin doubled dipped. When he was making his green sauce in the blender, he used a spoon to taste it and then immediately went in again with the same spoon. I hate it when chefs do that. I don't want their germs in my food.
