OMG yes, eliminations for FOH stuff really annoys me because this show is Top Chef, not Top Front of House. While I understand that sometimes being a chef/having your own restaurant requires more than just designing a menu and executing it, that's really all I want to see from the contestants. Even if the FOH mistakes are the fault of whichever chef got that role for restaurant wars, that's still really not what the competition is about.

It reminds me of the early seasons of American Idol where they would throw together groups of contestants after open auditions and force them to choreograph a group routine. It's a singing competition, not a choreography contest, so it seems ludicrous to ask them to do this. But that choreography assignment is similar to restaurant wars in that they're both designed to create manufactured drama. The producers just want to see people fight and have meltdowns and I hate it. Restaurant wars seems especially unnecessary these days since there are already multiple team challenges that are essentially the same thing (create a menu together).

Yes, could not agree more with everything you said. It also feels even more unnecessary when some chefs already have their own restaurants too. The episode always sticks out like a sore thumb because the rest of the show is generally not about manufactured drama, it's about cooking, which is why I love it. Let the dishes and chefs speak for themselves.
