Anna Gunn says people are finally being nicer to her about Skyler.

“People come up to me now & say ‘You were the conscience of the show...’ or ‘The first time I watched it, I hated that character. But the second time I watched it, I realized, Oh my God, that poor woman’”… pic.twitter.com/wtQUpJVMrk

Super easy red flag test is to ask a guy what he thinks of Skylar.

In the UK, it was anyone who'd say "fook Linda*" with their whole chest and mean it.

*Linda Shelby

tbh I passed on any guy with an undercut who unironically dressed like a Shelby brother because it was just safer to assume they were 🙅

The hate she got was so OTT. But also it was the same with Carmela Soprano. Somehow men just saw it as an annoying nagging wife and there's no concept of her husband being evil.

I remember thinking Skylar was a bit annoying in the earlier seasons but I don't know how anyone could hate her by the end of the show. Like, jfc, what that character went through. But somehow they still cheer for Walt.

this 100%
that voicemail he left her in one of the last episodes, and so many idiots were like yeah, tell her! with no awareness at all that he was intentionally phrasing it a certain way to protect her from law enforcement.

Ughhhhh. The way some people have no media comprehension at all. No awareness of language choices, subtext, etc. These are the same people who play Born in the USA on the fourth of July.

I've stopped visiting like all TV-related subreddits - even though I love reading discussions about shows I love - for this exact reason. So many people "watch" shows while scrolling their phones nowadays, miss literally everything, and then insist their interpretation is right jfc.

I was usually quite annoyed by Skyler's character, while simultaneously aware she was 1000% in the right every single time and I was being manipulated by the framing of Walter White done by the show. Two things can be true! And it's crazy how so many Breaking Bad bros hated her so viciously with absolutely no awareness of why they hated her so much. The nuances of her character and the way it was written completely escaped a huge portion of the fanbase.

it's sad both for misogyny reasons and for media literacy reasons. like, yes, this is a brilliantly written show, but they are missing half of exactly why it's so well-done because they refuse to devote energy to anyone not a white man!

also, on rewatch and older and wiser, Walt is objective infuriating and TERRIFYING

I also didn't particularly like her character & thought she'd be someone I wouldn't get along with in RL, however, I understood why she was behaving the way she was. Which I didn't get from Walter at all because he consciously chose the overall situation and his stupid decision-making really grated on my nerves!

At no point in the whole show did I have any sympathy for his character, and found Aaron Paul's & all the side stories much more intriguing. I honestly never understood why people liked and watched for Walter White? I don't find him complex, nuanced, ~troubled or sympathetic at all. Unlike several other people on the show. So claiming to love/respect him (bonus: while hating Skyler) is a good indicator to me to walk away lol

Skyler is everything people claim to want in a female character, someone complex and portrayed by a talented actress.

tbh, I don't even know why incels use Walt as their self-insert. While he was certainly entertaining, he was a very pathetic man lol other than the "stay out of my territory" line and the scene where he hits the guy who was mocking his son, Walt was a loser in every step of the way.

He was truly a loser in ever sense of the word. Hank was right about him in the end.

And he was given ways out of at so many points!!! I would see people insisting that Walter just did it for his family, but the show makes it pretty clear he gets hooked to the power and it does become all about him. I can't believe people buy into the delusional lies Walter tells himself.
