I just came back from watching this. My heart was pounding during the final battle sequence. I liked it overall, but it felt like there was something missing especially in the first half. Pretty much loved everything after Jesse Plemons showed up.

I was just about to comment that I thought the second half of the film was incredible. It was a very engaging film for me from start to finish. The imagery was beautiful. I loved the interesting music choices. I am also a major Kiki Dunst fan so I am already going to be biased. I dont think it was perfect but I really liked the choice to leave the politics of the war out. I don’t really get what making it about the war would add - because even if one side is more “justified” here, would it make a difference? Jesse Plemon’s character for example I think was on the president’s side or the side not taking down the government.

But anyway, that finale was INSANE! I’d see it again if it wasn’t also an upsetting watch. I was really rattled after Jesse’s scene.

I thought the comments by the sniper duo perfectly summed it up. It didn’t even matter who was giving the orders anymore.
And it was so great to see (hear?) some unusual music choices. Some of the cinematography was also breath-taking

yes I really liked that they decided to do it all from the journalists pov.

At the end of the day, it was pretty obvious that Offerman was meant to be a [Spoiler (click to open)]a facist president/bordering on dictator. I remember there was a mention of his third term, etc. and ofc nothing about Jesse's character was subtle lol.

my fists were CLENCHED during the finale lmao and Kirsten Dunst was great! Loved her performance. And the sound design was INCREDIBLE. I want to watch it again, but now that I know how upsetting some parts are I'm going to hold off for a while. I'm going to try and catch it one more time before it leaves theaters though.

Makes me happy that two of the most anticipated films coming out right now are original films from two really interesting directors - Alex Garland and Luca Guadagnino. Will not lie this made me sad that Garland wants to quit directing, it was really stunning. And also that Denis is having success right now too, just really refreshing to me (as someone not really interested in marvel movies. Sorry to go there).

I really enjoyed it. It was refreshing to see something that actual craftsmanship went into and that wasn’t totally predictable. And it was even two hours long!
And I’m normally not the biggest Alex Garland fan.

I really liked it, Dunst and Moura were amazing, and I loved the music, but ending almost ruined it for me. It was so cheesy. Ridiculous.

I truly hated Men so don’t have high hope for this.
