I don't understand how, since he was only in one episode from what I remember, no? How can he get enough money from that?

I assume residuals back then for even small day player parts paid more than they do now? Now you have people posting their 10 cent residual checks on Twitter.

Buffy was heavily re-run and DVDs were probably selling very well, it might have been like $250-$400 at the minimum and that would definitely help

I remember FX aired it every day for a while when I was in middle school. That's how I actually watched the series.

That's pretty much what Quentin Tarantino said about his residual from one episode of The Golden Girls he was in as an Elvis impersonator (QT probably got a lot less, because he was little more than an extra).

That's amazing. I'm shocked that a residual check would be that substantial tho. We usually hear about people getting pennies.

Depends on the episodes, popularity of the show, and syndication I guess. And also back then box-set of seasons sold a lot as well.

I've seen people say that the residual can be up and down. Like when a movie is played on TV the residual may be higher if it gets a lot of repeats and is currently popular but they can be low if that popularity is not there.

The pennies are the newer residuals from streaming I think?

Even shows that used to run reruns on broadcast TV/cable and give fairy decent residuals now give pennies if they're on Netflix/etc.

I know you’re joking but it really sucks if you made it (even a bit part or guest starring role) pre streaming. It’s so sad how much it has screwed over everyone in front of and behind the camera except the higher ups.

Residual checks have helped many a people!

I remember Quentin Tarantino said the residual checks he got from being in an episode of The Golden Girls helped fund Reservoir Dogs. That episode premiered in 1988 and he mentions he got paid $650 for that episode and subsequent residual from reruns of it. But because it was a 2-part (he got paid for both episodes) episode and later put on a "Best of The Golden Girls" compilation because it was so popular that by 3 years later it made him around $3,000 dollars in residuals which helped with the preproduction of Reservoir Dogs and that didn't come out until 1992.
