Good for him and everyone else who benefits, it's just a whole new world now.

Depending on the show and other factors, I've heard some actors can just live off that alone or at least it helps keeps them afloat.

I remember Geoffrey Owens said the main reason he took the Traders Joe job was because of the Bill Cosby scandal, the show that got pulled from the TV which resulted in loss of residuals. Anyone who grew up in the 90s to 00s knows that the that Cosby show was heavily syndicated too

"“That was one of the many factors that contributed to my decision to take a job outside the entertainment industry,” Owens told TheWrap. “It did not help me financially.”

“The fact is, yeah, there was a certain amount of money that stopped coming in and that made a difference,” Owens said."https://www.thewrap.com/geoffrey-owens-says-lost-cosby-show-residuals-factor-trader-joes-job-exclusive/... )

Ugh, was reminded myself about the Cosby scandal. I don’t blame networks and streamers for pulling the plug (though we know it’s just to save face) but it’s always everyone else who suffers.

Yeah I wasn't totally fine with pulling the show (also what about other shows that have terrible people?) because the other cast members suffer too and it's not fair.

With that! He had a cute one episode role on New Amsterdam and part of me wants to encourage others to watch it but I don’t think it benefits him, ugh.

I don't understand how residuals work, I'm not against it but I don't get how it all get's calculated. There are plenty of people who make contributions and are contracted to their contribution and nothing beyond that right? Like does someone who does the lighting get a residual? Does a stunt person get residuals? Does someone who provided the outfits get residuals? I get it's an industry standard but I don't understand how many people actually get them.

There’s whats’s called above the line and below the line crew. Above the line refers to creatives; (some) producers, directors, writers, and talent. They usually have some sway in the success of a project, so they can command residuals in their contract, depending on where they are in their career and whatever deal they negotiate.

Below the line crew aren’t as visible or potential audience draws, so they usually get paid for their work days and that’s all
