i've been thinking about this topic. cuz a mother was getting dragged on insta for saying that while she loves her daughter, she hates motherhood. to me, it made perfect sense. Loving your children and being a mother are two separate entities. we live in a society that gives motherhood lip service and calls talking about the reality of motherhood/childbirth fear mongering and women feel rightfully overwhelmed the only response they get is 'well, motherhood is hard ( ... )

Thank you for this. There's a pressure put on women to give up their sense of self the instant they become mothers that doesn't happen to the dads. Some women turn motherhood into their entire personality (see the people online with usernames like "ryansmommy") and then the kids get older and those women wake up one day and discover they don't know who the fuck they are anymore, and that when they have midlife crisis and start fucking 24 year olds. I've seen it happen a lot, and it's really sad.

That's a big part of what scares me about motherhood.

There was this youtuber/streamer I used to watch from time to time and she all but disappeared after having a kid. Her choice, of course, but damn, she was pretty successful by platform standards and to just let all of that go. I couldn't.

There's another rancid discourse happening in which a semi-famous Twitter guy decided to drag KC Davis's TikTok video where she says she's decided to stop doing "imaginative" play with her kids (ie. tea parties, pretending to be a lion) because as a SAHM it was burning her out. She still does crafts, bakes with them, takes them to museums, reads to them, etc. But decided she just got nothing out of imaginative play and let them know that she enjoys watching them play but didn't want to participate ( ... )

It sounds harsh but there’s nuance and she’s probably right

She has always had a nasty spirit. I’m hoping praying that people don’t wave away her bs with “sassy” and “qt”. It is enough, hold her to account.

I think having both a career and raising young children is only possible if you have an active partner and familial help. Without it at some point something will have to give. Women can't be expected to raise children on top of a full time job and doing the household work.

And money, cause divorce or spousal death can happen but if you have money you can find help with that.
