Bradley Cooper spent years perfecting his performance (plus writing and directing) in hopes of securing an Oscar for Maestro, but instead, his performance was seemingly overshadowed by his "desperation" to win, and the Oscar for Best Actor instead went to quiet frontrunner Cillian Murphy.

I didn’t know she had a podcast, thanks!! Although skimming through the eps it doesn’t seems as celebrity focused as I’d hoped it’d be.

He's a white man. They'll bend over backwards to give him one sooner or later. One year everyone will be all like, "it's his time!" "he deserved it for such and such."

Meanwhile I'm still waiting for another black woman to win best actress.

I read somewhere that during A Star Is Born promo Bradley portrayed himself as this aloof and above it all director which rubbed critics and media the wrong way - he apparently told a journalist in an interview at that time he wouldn’t bother to explain the movie to her because she wouldn’t understand his art. So he did the opposite for Maestro promo but he went too far in that direction again. I think people can pick up on the fakeness of both approaches.

The pap walks with Gigi Hadid didn’t help either. He looks ridiculous and no one believes the relationship.

I’m sure he’ll try again, I don’t think he’s someone who’s seen as overdue though so he has to actually make a good movie. I watched Maestro and it was particularly let down by the awful screenplay he wrote himself. I think he needs to just let someone else write and direct his films and he should focus on acting.

He was trying too hard to get a director nomination and ignored the actor race, and ended up with neither.

I truly can’t fathom why he went this hard for an Oscar and then went on pap walks with his 20-something girlfriend in Ellen undies!

He'll always be the guy who did the Lolita park photos.

Mastro had some really nice shots but that was pretty much it imo, there was nothing there

his best shot at getting an Oscar is propably in producing

I think he's a good director, but definitely the script got in the way in Maestro. I agree that there was very little there for me. I had very little emotional reaction to it all. Unlike A Star is Born where he got me, but that script was based on something already existing.

Instead of spending six years or whatever learning how to conduct, he should’ve concentrated on learning how to write a compelling script.
I thought he was good as actor in A Star is Born, but overall the movie felt empty; the story too thin for me.

Agreed about the conducting; that feels like such an actor gimmick. That said, I know people who are musicians who were impressed by it so what do I know! I'm sure it was hard to master, but I still fail to see what that long conducting scene added to the movie that could not have been grasped by a shorter scene where the conducting was not 100% authentic. A better script is what this movie needed!

I found A Star is Born very affecting. I had seen an older version so knew the general contours of what would happen, but I still was very moved. The fact that he cast Lady Gaga really helped to sell the material. I thought they were great together.

I miss him from his Hangover days. Best he's ever looked, in that first scene with the aviators.
