Henry Cavill says "I'm not a fan" of sex scenes and "I don't understand them."

"I think sometimes they’re overused these days...it can be a little bit of a cop-out if a TV show or a movie is just filled with gyrating bodies and you’re going, ‘Okay, but what is this doing for us… pic.twitter.com/Qbc6CCJax5

He probably got sick of them after shooting 234980567 sex scenes on The Tudors

Apparently he got aroused once filming one and felt really, really embarrassed and ashamed. So it might be that.

I imagine that's got to be so awkward for actors in general - like, you're going through all these mechanical motions and sometimes your body (male or female) is just going to go on auto-pilot and react like it thinks it's real. How do you then not look like a creep who's getting off on it? You're trying not to let this get worse or noticeable, you don't want your co-star to be uncomfortable, and then through it all you still have to keep going to give them the shot.

I can already imagine the response Film Twitter is going to have about this but they need to allow the actual workers doing these scenes to express their discomfort about their literal work conditions before they immediately jump to calling them a putriteen imo.

Film twitter is so concerned about letting everyone they wanna save cinema that they don't care when people voice actual concern about what goes on behind the scenes in said cinema.

I've said it before but I've always gotten the feeling that the ones crying the most about how sanitized and the lack of sex scenes are just the types that need that voyueristic escapism cause clearly you're not getting outside of cinema. Cause why the intense need when you got female actress and the occasional male actor saying that they felt exploited and/or pressured into it.

I have already seen negative responses to to Henry and I do not give a single shit about this man but it is so weird when critics are acting as if actors kind of not wanting sex scenes in their work( I’m also thinking of pen badgley rn) means that they are personally going to march on Washington in favor of reinstating the Hays Code.

The critics will never know emotionally how it will feel to actually shoot an intimate scene so they need to give actors space to express negative emotions about them. Henry, who was on The Tudors not wanting to have sex scenes in cinema is something to further explore.

I feel like there's separate issues being conflated into one generic debate.

One is about sex scenes existing, another is the lack of overall eroticism+chemistry, and the last is the safety of the actors. I think it's good for past and current sets to be called out for not creating a safe environment, and the importance of intimicacy coordinators to be emphasized, but I don't think sex scenes themselves are a problem.

It's all in how they're handled and the intentions behind them. Personally I would argue there's a lot of value in a well-done sex scene which is meant to be joyous and loving and shows it can be done without exploitation, especially given how many young people only understand it through porn.

I’m way late to the party on this one lol but I just finished True Detective season one and whew lord the women nudity and sex scenes in that show was so ott. I remembered too that someone had come out and said that Cary was a creep behind the scenes and pushed for the nudity. Because I like to read reactions to shows that I finished when I was googling I found an article where Cary and Nic were like “hbo made us do the sex scenes and nudity!” Just bold faces lies that’s why I’m so over sex scenes you just don’t know who’s being exploited to make that entertainment

I probably wouldn't be crazy about sex scenes in general but I think the unnecessary nudity and sex scenes from mid 00 and 2010s turned me off completely. Then hearing about the bts on the affair and GOT? I'm over it.

How many people were coerced to do things they didn't want to

The biggest shows in Gen Z’s lifetime are both Game of Thrones and Euphoria and we need to focus on there when we’re examining their distaste for sex in cinema imo.

We had a post a while back where an extra came out saying how Cary tried to get to do nude scenes during a strip club scene. I don't remember it all but she had made clear that she did not have to do nudity for that scene and she had no nudity clause in her contract but day of he tried to get to do by saying how the other girls are naked. She refused to comply and eventually lost that role.
