Henry Cavill says "I'm not a fan" of sex scenes and "I don't understand them."

"I think sometimes they’re overused these days...it can be a little bit of a cop-out if a TV show or a movie is just filled with gyrating bodies and you’re going, ‘Okay, but what is this doing for us… pic.twitter.com/Qbc6CCJax5

If I was an actress I probably wouldn't like sex scenes tbh
Especially if it didn't elevate w/e the movie/show was.

Sex scenes can be great in a movie, they can really help with the storytelling
Ontd what are sex scenes that you felt elevated the story?

Oh I've heard other people say the same thing for that film

Also I felt the sex scenes in the curse and Mr and Mrs Smith were important in establishing character arcs and plot for more recent examples.

I abhor sex scenes in movies and tv shows. However, in books, they don't bother me as much. Not sure why.

Personally, your imagination can make it seem better than anything someone puts on film.

That's why I've never watched porn, but I still like romantic/sexy sex/love scenes in movies

They never do them properly. There can be intensely erotic scenes where you barely see anything.
And written erotica is always better than visuals, but I think most men would disagree.

Honestly I've never heard an actor say they enjoyed filming a sex scene, all of them basically say it's super awkward and sometimes uncomfortable. And if it's hard for a man I'm sure it's a million times worse for a woman who usually has to be more naked/have their breasts out even if they don't have to be fully nude. I don't blame them for maybe not liking them. I know people here have talked about like society becoming more prudish lately and how people are more fine with violence than sex and I think it's a valid discussion but I don't really mind actors talking about not liking them because they're the ones that have to get at least partially naked in a room and film themselves pretending to have sex lol.

yeah I’m remembering an actress talking about how uncomfortable it was being naked in a room full of men and maybe a different one that talked about how dudes that weren’t even supposed to be on set would show up to watch.

I rme when people talk about how it’s about art especially for shows/movies where it’s exclusively the women that are naked (usually hbo).

Any show that will have scenes where a woman is completely naked (usually multiple scenes and multiple women) and then the men never show you anything more than some brief shots of their ass is always sus to me lol.

A good director will close the set & only have the least amount of people possible to run the camera and take care of sound.

it is true sex scenes are actually on the decline and i disagree with the people who say sex scenes are unnecessary if they don't add anything to the plot, but i feel like some of the people who criticize the anti-sex-in-movies/TV shows crowd only focus on that aspect of the argument. i'm mainly interested in this from a labor POV, and we've heard constant stories over the years from actresses who have expressed discomfort with doing nude/sex scenes.
