Will Ferrell's best friend of 30 years came out as transgender. Then they made a doc about it.

"It’s a chance all of us in the cis community to be able to ask questions and also just listen and be there as friends to discuss this journey," Ferrell says. https://t.co/La8HAIaMi5

Reading the vanity fair article right now! But I’ve already teared up lmao. but that sort of opened the questions like, how can we help you? What do you need us to do?” love supportive friends. I hope it gets distribution because i wanna see it too.

This is lovely, and so what if it comes across as Trans 101. Not everyone is born with an innate knowledge of every culture, and it's never a bad thing to want to learn.

With Will Ferrell being apart of the documentary, I feel it will most likely reach an audience who may not have given a second thought to the transgender community, and hopefully give them a level of positive awareness that they may not have had before.

yeah, I agree re: so what if it's Trans 101. Most entertainment is not deeply academic and even within queer culture not everyone knows a lot of trans people! like I was raised by a lesbian and I feel like I know a billion things about lesbian culture but I didn't know any trans people until I was an adult.

exactly, and will ferrell being involved with this would expose an audience (comedy dudebros) that probably would never seek out understanding or information about the transgender community/experience which is a positive thing

I feel like Barbie showed us that sometimes even when we get spoon-fed messages, and they are ‘dumbed down’ for audiences people STILL don’t get it so having this be Trans 101 is what is very much needed for a large audience to dip their toes into learning about the community.

Considering that several prominent men in comedy have made it their business over the past few years to beat up on trans people, it is great to see someone in comedy not being an asshole to the community. Also, from the writeup, this seems like an introspective piece on their friendship which is wonderful.

Will Ferrells choices in production these past couple of years has been pleasantly surprising. I hope the doc gets picked up. I'd love to see it.
