Will Ferrell's best friend of 30 years came out as transgender. Then they made a doc about it.

"It’s a chance all of us in the cis community to be able to ask questions and also just listen and be there as friends to discuss this journey," Ferrell says. https://t.co/La8HAIaMi5

This sounds lovely and I hope it finds distribution. Will Ferrell’s audience and the fact that it’s likely to have some humor in it coming from two pros in comedy sounds like it may really engage well with audiences.

I know that lgbtq people are often traumatically ostracized from their loved ones when they live authentically (and I don’t want to minimize that) but on the other hand I’m often reminded of how powerful it can be when loving even one person you find out is lgbtq can take you from a place of ignorance and even fear to a complete mindshift. Of course I wish people could humanize others regardless but we care more about what affects us directly, generally.

Anyways hope to check this out when I can!

ONTD reads! I was just about to ask where I could stream it then saw your note about it still seeking distribution. I would like to see it. I wonder if Will ever suspected? I think about my BFF of 22 years and if she came out as transgender I would be very surprised, but you know, she's a whole different person than Harper. Sorry that sounds so stupid, I just did a couple dabs.

I'm just curious to know if Will suspected at some point or not. I'm super tight with my best friend, I feel like he must have had some suspicions but then again maybe not? All the trans friends I have were already trans when I met them, I've never known someone when they were going through that particular coming out process.

This reminds me of what the GLAAD president said at the Emmy’s “ More people say they have seen a ghost than know a trans person. When you don’t know people, it’s easy to demonize them. Visibility creates understanding and opens doors, it’s life-saving” it’s so true and I hope we see more projects like these as well as eveyday characters in tv shows/movies

For everyone that’s saying that it’s going to be trans 101 for a cis audience, the article makes it pretty clear that it is:

“I had met trans people, but I didn’t have anyone personally in my life,” Ferrell said. “So this was all new territory for me, which is why I think this film is so exciting for us to kind of put out there in the world. It’s a chance all of us in the cis community to be able to ask questions and also just to listen and be there as a friend to discuss this journey.”

“It tells the story of a cis friend of a trans person who has to transition himself,” Harper added of the movie.

I don’t doubt it’ll get picked up for distribution, so I hope it shows close to me. I’m really interested in Harper’s story and what kind of a humorist she is.
