Will Ferrell's best friend of 30 years came out as transgender. Then they made a doc about it.

"It’s a chance all of us in the cis community to be able to ask questions and also just listen and be there as friends to discuss this journey," Ferrell says. https://t.co/La8HAIaMi5

I'm sure this will be 'Trans 101' and definitely made for cis people, but I hope it's good and succeeds in its goals

I think Trans 101 is a good starting point for a lot of people.

like yeah i'm sure it'll be basic to a lot of people... but the majority of the population doesn't even have the basics down!

Ferrel seems to get mixed reviews from when people meet him (and I get the vibe this might be a 101 type approach to transgender issues) but this is pretty awesome <3

he himself has admitted that if people approach him for pictures or autographs, he will make them “work for it”, which tbh i don’t really mind. i’ve only heard good things about his interactions with service people and rank and file on set.

Yeah tbh I was basing that on a listicle where they maybe somebody had bumped into him in a bad day, but a friend met him and said he was lovely so maybe I need to be more ONTD and read less 😂

Interesting. I've only ever heard that he's not really a funny guy irl and is more serious than people expect.

This sounds really interesting. Hopefully the dudebros who adored him back in the early 2000s will actually check this out and respond to it. No one's demanding that you become an expert in LGBTQ+ issues, we're just asking you to be open-minded. (And in lieu of that, be quiet.)

lets normalize "i dont know enough about it yet" instead of close minded people spouting off some bigoted garbage.

its genuinely so liberating to just admit, like, hey i don't know enough about that subject to make an informed decision! i will NOT be speaking just to hear myself talk!

I wish ONTDers were more like this instead of reading the headline of an article and getting mad at everyone else if they don't have the exact same misinformed opinion.

This is really sweet and I hope it can move the needle, even a tiny bit, on older generation's acceptance and understanding on trans folk.
