Guillermo del Toro joins Christopher Nolan in championing physical media.

“Physical media is almost a Fahrenheit 451 (where people memorized entire books and thus became the book they loved) level of responsibility. If you own a great 4K HD, Blu-ray, DVD etc etc of a film or… pic.twitter.com/IUR86HYEJu

r/boutiquebluray is a good place to start. criterion is doing it's yearly half off sale at barnes and noble and labels like arrow and vinegar syndrome are currently having sales. getting a 4k player and region free Blu ray player is absolutely the way to go.

Region free is so worth it. I got my latest VinSyn order the other day (and am currently wearing one of their shirts lol)

Talk dirty physical media to me!

I can't even remember the movie I got the region free blu-ray player for, but I have a ton now, so it's obviously worth it!

Physical media is the fucking best! I'm currently running out of room on my shelves for all the movies I've bought lately. I've got a few movies that you can't get on physical media right now, only streaming. One of them is going for over 100 bucks on ebay last I checked. I won't be selling it tho! I think I even have a few editions that are worth money, especially MST3K!

Also, just have to point everyone to my favorite horror/sci-fi/cult/werido cinema shop Orbit DVD. Currently celebrating 20!! years! They're semi local (a few hours away) buy local and support small businesses!

what i’m hearing is, you have a moral obligation to future humans to burn copies of movies and preserve our culture

It's kind of funny because most have laptops without media runners and burners.

My laptop is from 2019 and I was surprised to see it had a disk drive.

I regret selling the majority of my dvds like a decade ago 💔 but I’ve started collecting movies/tv I love that aren’t available anywhere to stream and ripping stuff just in case something happens to the disc and it becomes impossible to find later. I’ve kinda become a paranoid media hoarder lol

Sounds like a case for piracy. Sure digital hardware can degrade over time but that's what cloud backups are for and external Hard Drives.

I buy physical media occasionally (read: my favorite movie of the year will get a buy) but otherwise I don't want the clutter, because I will never open it and take it out. Though my favorite buy is when our Books a Million sold used phy.media for like 4 months and I found a DVD copy of Rocknrolla that still has the original sequel stinger at the end.

Now we're gonna have movies that get released on streaming services but never a physical release. Like can I buy Polite Society on Blu Ray? Oh apparently I can. Ok, nice.
