Guillermo del Toro joins Christopher Nolan in championing physical media.

“Physical media is almost a Fahrenheit 451 (where people memorized entire books and thus became the book they loved) level of responsibility. If you own a great 4K HD, Blu-ray, DVD etc etc of a film or… pic.twitter.com/IUR86HYEJu

Yessss, he is correct, so much good shit isn’t even on streaming! I also hate the game of whack a mole when one streaming service takes off the movie you wanna watch, so ya gotta find it on another, till THEY take it off and on and on and on… This happened to me with Showgirls multiple times, so now I got the dvd AND blu ray 😎.

Also, if you’re in Seattle, this is an excellent place to visit for physical media:

i FOOLISHLY got rid of all my dvds about 5 years ago before i moved for the last time, but ia with him! i just got my first ever criterion blu ray (the 1940 hitchcock rebecca) and am gonna start developing a collection!

major companies are trash for how often they just remove shit from streaming services.

i might have scoffed at this like 2 years ago but seeing as how companies are now so quick to remove content from a service that you’re literally paying for?! ita with him. owning a physical copy of something is extra proof that you like it (for some of us).

i’m honestly surprised we haven’t seen a resurgence in physical media now that we know streamers don’t gaf about consumers actually being able to stream their content.

I rme at the uwu nature of it but he does have a point. But I feel like space is an issue and also the evolution of home video. It's what 4k blueray but what's the next phase and will have re-buy the same titles to match the new home system?

What sucks is that some stuff that was on video never made it to dvd and a lot of stuff that was on dvd never got on blu ray, etc. I’ve only ever bought my faves on multiple formats without selling the old versions later on.

See my parents raised on anti-hoarder mindset so I'm not liking the idea of buying multiples copies of the same thing because a new format took over. Some aspect is absolutely wasteful but at the same time you can't stop evolution.

There's some things that haven't even made a physical release.... Boston Public is the first the comes to mind. It basically doesn't exist anywhere.

What a collection 😍 I aspire to own this many Criterions.

I don't have that many so I organize mine by spine number, but I feel like if I owned this many I would have to just do alphabetical so I could find them.
