For Mischa Barton, filming ‘The O.C.’ became extremely taxing as the show soared in popularity.

“There were years when I only had six days off in the whole year,” she says. “It was exhausting.”

The OC creator Josh Schwartz thought killing off Marissa would reinvigorate the show but now thinks he lacked imagination at the time and should have instead hooked Marissa up with Seth or had her reunite with Luke

he said he lacked imagination then and THOSE are the better options that he can think of now??? ....

It's death of hookup! No other options available.

Yes, killing Marissa was a mistake though I didn't hate Taylor/Ryan. It was refreshingly drama-free. But Marissa/Seth makes no sense for me?

I'm currently rewatching it and while I loved Season 1 I'm starting to get annoyed now during season 2, especially knowing how it'll continue. Though I never realized how many Twilight actors were on it.

Marissa and Seth have no romantic chemistry…at all

This. I love Seth, he was my favorite character and I did like their friendship but romantically? No.

They have like one or two scenes together where it’s just the two of them over the course of the whole show. A genuine friendship between the two would have been a much more interesting storyline!

somehow I don't think the show would recover from Marissa hooking up with Seth either...

Marissa dying breathed show into the life for me. Season 4 was so much fun, idgaf.

S4 was a revelation. Different to the seasons before but so enjoyable. It's a shame they'd run the show into the ground during S3 so it didn't have the chance to catch on again.

100%. I still remember that I was happy when she died because I always felt the character was such a drag.

i remember thinking it was the dumbest idea at the time. i always thought it was because mischa wanted to leave but sounds like there were other, bigger reasons. i think by season 3 the show lost a lot of the humor it had from season 1. although it was unintentionally funny that seth's big dramatic drug storyline was him smoking weed. they should've just sent marissa away to rehab so mischa could have a bit of a break.
