I decided I'm going to put my AMC subscription to good use and see three movies this weekend and picked this one on Friday (it was the shorted and there's no way I'm sitting for 3.5 hours after work).

I was surprised at first because my showing was nearly empty for reserved seats, but I looked at later times and they were busier.

I don't need a movie to be Good as long as it can be entertaining. I hope Marvel can at least still achieve that.

Even as someone who was a casual fan of the MCU, I still can't help but get enjoyment over how 2020 and Covid seemed to ruin everything for Disney.

I saw the trailer for this in the theater and to me it seemed Disney lost faith that Brie Larson could pull numbers on her own and so they just threw a bunch of women into the cast in the hopes that an ensemble would be more of a draw. The trailer was incomprehensible nonsense. Feels shitty because I think if the film focused on her like the first one did it would've done better.

My husband and I watched all the marvel shit during Covid, but we saw the trailer and said “could you imagine not having watched all that shit? This wouldn’t make any fucking sense.” They can’t keep trying to force the audience to consume everything. It’s too much now. It was one thing when it was like “watch a movie every couple years.”

I dunno, they were all kind of tied together by lore. But I think it's more of a problem of the MCU being too bloated in general. The success of Phase 1 was that people went to see the blockbuster movies, and they came out maybe once/twice a year. Now there are too many IPs. So even if you enjoyed Loki or Wandavision, you may not have watched Ms. Marvel and would just be out-of-the-loop. They got greedy/overambitious. The films also suffered because you had studios leaning over the directors telling them to shoehorn in characters XYZ. A few of them have spoken about how there was too much to tie-in, instead of allowing the movie to be a solid standalone.
