Lisa Marie Presley hated the Priscilla script, asked Sofia Coppola not to make it

Before her death earlier this year, Lisa Marie Presley expressed shock and horror over the depiction of her father Elvis Presley in the script for Sofia Coppola’s new film “Priscilla”:

“My father only comes across as a predator and manipulative. As his daughter, I don’t read… pic.twitter.com/CODLTytMkn

"I read this and see your shockingly vengeful and contemptuous perspective and I don’t understand why? [...] your very dark and jaded reality"

Damn, that's pretty sharp criticism. Hard to support this movie with this in mind

it just sounds like someone in denial about their father, tbh

She was nine when Elvis died. I don't expect her to know anything about what really went down between her parents.

Okay so I’m all for showing Elvis as the child predator he is but if someone doesn’t authorise you to make a movie about their family member then fucking… don’t? Or at least not a feature film, a documentary would be a better idea then so that people wouldn’t be able to say certain things are exaggerated for dramatic effect, they’re actually true.

Idk gives me the ick Coppola will essentially profit from something that people close to the subject told her not to do. Again expose Elvis for who he is, a disgusting man, but rather thinking here about Riley here

Im sure if Priscilla wouldn't have wanted it she wouldn't have done it.

"the movie was based off of Priscilla Presley's autobiography and she is a producer on the film".

Doesn't get much closer than the subject herself.

if this was about a make pretend version of elvis i would understand your take, but it isn't, it's touching the reality of him (and it's not even in the agressive manner he deserved) and priscilla the book author authorized and was a part of the process. i am all about riley, but this is isn't about her or her mom. just because you love a criminal/a bad person it doesn't make them any less bad.

I’m sorry that she felt that way but this is Priscilla’s story and she should get final say.

I agree. I don't think it's for Lisa Marie to say she didn't see her mother's perspective of her father in the movie. It was based on Priscilla's memoir and since she had producer credit, unless it was just an honorary credit, she would have been heavily involved in all aspects of the film.

I don't know about heavily involved, but as an executive producer she would have had some creative control.

Also Lisa Marie never lived to see it but Priscilla is ultimately happy about the final film:

"It’s very difficult to sit and watch a film about you, about your life, about your love. Sofia did an amazing job. She did her homework, we spoke a couple of times and I really put everything out for her that I could.”

I thought she was a producer rather than executive producer, which are usually not as involved. I'm glad Priscilla is happy with the film. It's very sad that Lisa Marie was not, and thought her mother was ignorant of what was really happening. I can see her wanting to speak out against Sophia but I'm sure it would have created a lot of turmoil in the family for her to publicly discredit her own mother.

That's where I'm at. Priscilla sucks but it's her story.

yup, like i dislike her tremendously rn after the stunt she pulled after lisa marie's passing, but it doesn't change the fact that was elvis' victim. ngl i even agree that she deserves a slice of the graceland pie (though it was disgraceful and extremely gross the fact that she bullied her granddaughter into giving some of it to her flop ugly asshole son that has no connections to elvis, instead of sharing her part with him).

I mean, I have a lot against Priscilla over the way she was with her daughter and her own public image and how she treated her granddaughter (and I don't actually think her being groomed excuses her future actions) BUT I fully support this movie and story being told, it's hers to tell.

This makes me so sad to learn how much Lisa was struggling at the end of her life. I truly hope she is at peace.
