Putting up walls to stop selfies... seems a bit like cutting off your nose to spite your face. I mean, don't the people who live there want to see the beautiful scenery too?

I remember I was on a big fairytale retelling kick with the books I was reading, and somehow came across a recommendation for The 10th Kingdom. I think rented it from Blockbuster 😂

14 million people watched the first episode for for the millennial super fans most of us discovered it on DVD lmao. It must still be popular, they've rereleased it several times, even on bluray!

has a population of 780 yet has 10,000 tourists a day during peak season, and some days up to 30,000

Jesus, how does that even work? I live near some tourists spots in my country and I feel for them. Here at least is regulated but too much people is definitely a problem, specially when trying to protect the environment or historical places. Thankfully I'm in a corner of the world and not too many want to come here.

A housing development in China was opened in 2013 called Hallstatt, a replica of the town Lmao China will copy anything.

As an Austrian, you usually don't go there because everyone knows it's overcrowded, but my sister (who had never been) and I (had been there on a school trip in the 80s when there weren't any issues yet to visit the salt mine) went during the summer after the first lock-downs, when travel from outside the EU was still a no-go.

Even then it was pretty full, the locals were really nice but they are going through hell every year. Tourists just enter their homes and don't get that they did wrong when being chased out. There are signs on doors to please not throw cigarette stumps or piss into the plants or steal fire wood stacked next to the house etc. A lot of the Asian tourists are not aware this is a real town, but think it's a theme park, so they figure they have the right to just do as they please. It's insane. The tour operators should be held accountable for their clients' behaviour since they apparently have not been able to tell them it's a real town with real inhabitants.
