this seems... unnecessary and I can already see it wasting *more* time when people stand there and complain to staff at boarding about how they should go/etc. and holding up a line when they refuse to be separated from their family/friends/etc.
I just don’t see how this helps anything. The real holdup is people in the front of the plane taking forever to get their bags up into the bins which prevents anyone else from getting on the plane. People moving to let others in usually happens at the same time that the person is putting their bag up.
I don't know why people want to board first anyway other than to make sure their carry-on isn't checked. It's hard not to hit those people making your way down the aisle.
I always pick window so I'm good with this change.
According the the Mythbusters experiments where they had volunteers (with a carry-on) board a airplane mock-up, and they timed it, then asked people to rate each boarding plan. Back-to-front was confirmed as the slowest, with the third lowest satisfaction score. But Reverse Pyramid (a combination of back-to-front and WILMA) was significantly faster than back-to-front, and the most satisfying.
smh i have two scheduled united flights (I chose aisle seats bc folks be sittin' around too much when it's time to leave) throughout the remainder of the year. i best get to fit my carry ons into the overhead thing tbh!
Do they test this stuff also considering whether people will also listen? I have a friend with a bike who always sneaks their way on with an earlier boarding group
