Did you leave out the genre for The Royal Hotel on purpose 😃

Of this week's releases, I've already seen The Royal Hotel (pretty good, recommend) and Foe (terrible, do NOT recommend!! in fact, pretend it doesn't exist).

Definitely interested in seeing Dicks: The Musical ASAP. I was gonna go Saturday, but with the Phillies playoff game, I might have to reschedule. I also want to watch Totally Killer at some point, it looks fun!

Looking forward to seeing All of Us Strangers on Friday, I cannot fucking wait.

Also booked out my AFI Fest schedule. I've got 13 films on the agenda so far, and I am still waiting for them to announce what films Greta Gerwig is programming as the guest artistic director!!

Yeah, sorry to say, but it is easily the worst movie I've seen this year. I'll c/p my Letterboxd review - it's not spoilery, but long so I will stick it under a cut.

[Spoiler (click to open)]I truly do not know where to begin... what the hell happened here?!? Two of the most talented young actors I can think of in a movie I've been looking forward to since it was announced, and I can't imagine I'll ever watch again or recommend it to a single person... )

My God, I can't believe this. I mean, a movie can easily be bad, but bad at this level is almost an achievement given that it has such good actors as protagonists. What a shame :(

Remember when Cat Person was the big story of the year and the author was supposed to be the big new literary star and she kinda just disappeared? I know the movie got meh reviews, too, and the fact it was basically some girl's real experience who didn't know someone turned her life into fiction was weird.

I honestly didn’t think the story was all that great. Very confused on how/why it blew up.

I thought it wasn't the most well written but i identified with it, though i guess now i identified with the inspiration and her story. The author's career hasn't gone anywhere really. She wrote the original script for Bodies Bodies Bodies but they threw her script out and she only got a story credit.

It's a mundane story that feels uncomfortably familiar to most women who date cis men so I can see why it became a hit. I remember enjoying it, it reasonates very clearly with the experience of being a woman, especially the ending.
