The dirty little secret about the Oscar game is that there is no such thing as a “frontrunner.” Oh, we pretend there is. We imagine it. We predict it. We manifest it. But it actually doesn’t exist.

I know you shouldn't really trust the opinions of test screeners who are beholden to an NDA but blab anyway, but I've mostly just heard Napoleon was just ok, so IDK if that one is going anywhere near any Oscars.
I would love for Andrew Scott to get a nomination- he’s been so consistently good and genuine and sensitive and raw and talented in all of his performances I want nothing but the best for this Irish gay ❤️
Past Lives had its flaws but Greta Lee was magnetic. I totally understood both men having a thing for her she was so charismatic and beautiful and the way she demonstrated existing between two communities was super meaningful to me. I’d love for her to get it but academy doesn’t like this “subtle” acting a la queen Amy Adams they like loud and over the top cate blanchett acting so watch fucking Emma get it AGAIN.
They cannot be serious with Golda/Helen cmon. and Dominic sessa too - he’s never been in any movie ever before and the holdovers isn’t even out yet but I’m supposed to believe this white talent is so good he’s gonna get a nomination? Gtfo
I love Greta Lee. Though the very cynical part of me thinks the Academy definitely won't nominate her because they'll think they've already fulfilled their Asian quota last year with all the EEAAO noms/wins. Like, that's enough Asian representation for at least a decade.
Ugh valid and unfortunate point It was such a different movie from EEAAO which was so loud and spectacular and past lives was so quiet and intimate like imagine putting a cap on white movies even though they’re so different
I can absolutely picture the old, white voters thinking that way, and even doing something like getting Greta Lee and Steph Hsu confused. Because all asians look alike, amirite? As much as the Academy has tried to diversify in recent years, the core is still old and white. Sigh.
I'm hearing what you mean here, that both actors tend to fly under the radar. Oppenheimer certainly broadened the spotlight that's on Cillian. He's so much more all over social media platforms this year while he's always mostly had an underground following because he's just not an interview and social media guy, which hasn't changed at all, thankfully, other than the press that always accompanies Nolan films. The titular role versus a member of an ensemble makes a difference. They both deserve the spotlight and the awards but very obviously don't chase them, which makes them so much more appealing as people.
