Really appreciate that both she and Adam Driver used their platforms at this festival to talk about their unions.

Also love that WB suspended overall deals with a bunch of creators yesterday, including Greg Berlanti, and he responded by donating a bunch of money to several strike funds.

Prolific showrunner Greg Berlanti is donating nearly $1 million to current and former employees affected by Hollywood’s ongoing labor strikes. https://t.co/ffAxnz4Eae

Fuck the AMPTP, indeed.

variety is still splitting hairs on this one. the money isn't just for his employees, 500k is earmarked for them and the other 300k is going to split evenly between the Entertainment Community Fund and the Motion Picture & Television Fund

Even if he's not donating to everyone, setting up $500k for staff and crew is still an amazing move.

He wouldn't have to do this if the AMPTP would actually do their work and offer fair compensation.

that's not what i meant. the tweet said the money was only for ppl who worked for him, which makes it sound like those are the only ppl he's concerned about taking care of lol

Sofia Coppola also was pro-union at Venice:

"I’m totally behind the unions' hard work to fight for fair compensation," Sofia Coppola says, addressing the strikes. "I hope it’s resolved soon because we all want to get back to work." (via @kylebuchanan) pic.twitter.com/fjdaySdKdA

I saw people surprised about it but her and her dad have always been indie directors who work outside the studio system. Even with her distributors she tends to work with smaller ones. She sold Bling Ring to a24 before anyone knew who they were.

She still works in film, I can't imagine her being like "Yeah, AI actors, what a great choice".

God Jacob looks so dumb here. I can almost hear the voice in his head asking “what is a Union?”

He's tall so he really doesn't need anything going on up there.

Good for her and other using their platform to support artists and creators. Fuck the AMPTP with hot pokers.

Not surprising, she comes from a working class family and didn't have a leg up in the business (aside from being strikingly beautiful but so are so many others). I know power often corrupts people but she usually seems pretty genuine about the things she stands for. I'm sure we'll have comments about her crying like an idiot over the whole protesting without violence debacle but all things considered, I don't think she's anywhere near as much as of an asshole as some her peers. I still find her super annoying tho but at least she's talented so I'm not annoyed when watching her perform lol

Nah I’m done with her after the Matthew Newton thing. She’s as performative and full of shit as the rest of them.

She pointed out that the producers of the film she's promoting at Venice signed an interim agreement agreeing to SAG-AFTRA's demands

This is how you support the strike! The interim agreement proves that producers can easily abide by all of the things SAG is asking for in the new contract. It really shows that the AMPTP doesn't have a leg to stand on.
