It's so disappointing when you find a celeb you like for their celebrity ability (acting, music, whatever) and then find they have done some especially sleazy shit in their past that then ruins your perception of them permanently. Namely being a full grown adult messing around with people who are children / barely no longer children. I used to work with teenagers/college kids and despite the fact I still act like a kid half the time, that doesn't mean I have ANYTHING in common with them. Or can tolerate them for long periods of time.
ETA One time I told a guy friend about a D list celeb from some recognizable media who would be on this list if he was well-known (I won't go into details), and I asked him, "Why do people think it's ok to date teenagers?" and he said, a 30 year old man, "If I met a girl who was 18 or 19 and I knew she was the one, I would date her," and I went nope nope nope.
How do these girls’ friends feel having to be forced to hang out with these old ass dudes (+ Taylor Swift). Like 16 year old me would be so uncomfortable if my friend brought a 33(!!!) year old to our hangouts.
When I was 23 my friend brought her 28 year old bf to a party and us younger guests were like "he must be hating this" lol-I can't even IMAGINEEEE being a teen hanging with 30 year olds.
I’m turning 30 next year and if any of my friends brought a 16 year old I would be screaming “get that baby outta here”. Like idc if they can drive, I am not hanging out with anyone under 21 and definitely not under 18 and I will not accept my friends hanging out with anyone in that age group. It’s crazy.
that reminds me, when i was 18 i hung out with my 28 year old coworker and while i thought it was cool that i could ~befriend older ppl, i def felt the age gap hard. our convos were always about her dealing with engagement anxiety and fomo getting pregnant with friends her age... i was just fresh out of high school and my worries were a lot simpler. idk how a 16 year old could relate to a 33 y/o o_o
yeah I saw that happen a lot, and then the FF movies tried to turn him into this saintly hero figure, and every time someone went 'he dated kids the age of his daughter!! the creep!!' they'd be absolutely crucified for it like it's sad that he died a horrible death, sure. but he was still a serial creep
A+ post, OP. When people find out about Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, and artists who were popular decades ago dating teenagers, they like to say "it was a different time" but it still happens even today.
Even though these two examples involve 18 year olds, (1) they were technically still teenagers and (2) everyone seems to agree that they started dating but kept it quiet until that 18th birthday before making it official:
Brian Austin Green (30) and Megan Fox (18) Pete Davidson (26( and Kaia Gerber (18)
I couldn't find a definite timeline, but when Nikki Cox was on Unhappily Ever After, she first dated Kevin Connolly and then got engaged to Bobcat Goldthwaite. She was 17 when the show started filming. Kevin is four years older and Bobcat is 16 years older.
It’s so bleak that when I read that article from the 80’s detailing Jerry Lee Lewis possibly being connected to the death of one of his ex’s, I was genuinely so relieved when it mentioned how much of a scandal marrying his cousin who was a literal child was in the 50’s was and that it ruined his image. It haunted me how the article described her leaving her home with the few possessions she had in a carry-able dollhouse.
