Too many celebrities have dated minors and gotten away with it. Here's a reminder.

A+ post, OP. When people find out about Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, and artists who were popular decades ago dating teenagers, they like to say "it was a different time" but it still happens even today.

Even though these two examples involve 18 year olds, (1) they were technically still teenagers and (2) everyone seems to agree that they started dating but kept it quiet until that 18th birthday before making it official:

Brian Austin Green (30) and Megan Fox (18)
Pete Davidson (26( and Kaia Gerber (18)

I couldn't find a definite timeline, but when Nikki Cox was on Unhappily Ever After, she first dated Kevin Connolly and then got engaged to Bobcat Goldthwaite. She was 17 when the show started filming. Kevin is four years older and Bobcat is 16 years older.

The Jerry Lee Lewis thing is especially execrable to try and excuse because there was a huge outcry over it even at the time

It’s so bleak that when I read that article from the 80’s detailing Jerry Lee Lewis possibly being connected to the death of one of his ex’s, I was genuinely so relieved when it mentioned how much of a scandal marrying his cousin who was a literal child was in the 50’s was and that it ruined his image. It haunted me how the article described her leaving her home with the few possessions she had in a carry-able dollhouse.

right? he was on tour in the UK when a journalist broke the story and he had to cancel his remaining dates and get the fuck out of there. he was never the superstar his early success predicted he would be.

(that said, he still got a sympathetic biopic, and oh boy watching Dennis Quaid, 35 playing a young 20something, macking on Winona Ryder, 18 playing a 13yo...well, choices were made that got us to that, and none of them were good)

At least with Elvis, IIRC, it was a long time ago AND Priscilla's parents were reluctant. Maybe it was somewhat more acceptable then than now, but it wasn't like adults didn't see the red flags.

Jerry Lee Lewis also killed his fifth (or whatever) wife and got away with it thanks to his money and fame. Few people even know about it.

Another one people forget about is Bill Wyman from The Rolling Stones (52) and Mandy Smith marrying when she was 18. Their relationship began when she was 13. 😥
