‘Jackass’ stunt performer Wee Man (real name Jason Acuña) is ripping Disney for swapping out "dwarves" for taller actors in the upcoming live-action version of "Snow White" ... he says it's another existential threat facing his community.

I'm not even sure how you do the seven dwarves without being offensive somehow nowadays, or stereotyping somehow. My impulse would be to have a diversity of people, but also carve out just as many roles for LP, both as the "dwarves" and as other characters in the movie.

Idk. They could be related. Also, people do seek out people who are like them. Therefore them being seven itself is not really a problem.

Now when it comes to them being her sidekicks... yeah, now we're on thin ice.

Then again, now we have a "diverse" cast of sidekicks. Does that make it better?

Guess that's why we need GOOD writers.

I'm of two minds about it. On the one hand, stereotypes. On the other hand, lil people getting paid? It's very delicate.

I don't even understand the stereotypes argument.
The characters were named after personality traits: sneezy, lazy, happy... are these somehow linked to dwarfism in a way that I'm not aware of?

In the fairytake each dwarf had a personality type. I would have just hired little people and let the different personality types shine.

Disney shouldn’t have casted the people for the dwarfs like they decided to do. They should have casted dwarfs for the roles and made them storylines where each character would have shined a little bit on their own.
It would have been a new way to tell the story of Snow White.
