‘Jackass’ stunt performer Wee Man (real name Jason Acuña) is ripping Disney for swapping out "dwarves" for taller actors in the upcoming live-action version of "Snow White" ... he says it's another existential threat facing his community.

I mean they could have cast LP and humanised the characters, hell they could have been radical and cast a LP as Snow White but we know why they wouldn’t. The dwarves were the heroes of the story.

Either way, I’m not here for another remake. I wish their Live Action branch at Disney solely focused on original work instead of forcing writers to stay confined to some Eurocentric fairytale they want to remake again.

The Miranda Richardson/Kristin Kreuk version had an interesting take - they got LP actors like Warwick Davis, Michael J. Anderson and Martin Klebba for six of the seven dwarves, and the seventh was Vincent Schiavelli. And nobody commented on it at all.

Disney claimed after Dinklage's comments from 2022 (I think 2022?) that they were "consulting with members of the dwarfism community" but then like a few hours later said "oh we're going to make them magical creatures instead," but seems they have (presumably) backtracked on that as well ( ... )

Without knowing who they actually consulted, it's hard to say exactly what the right step is.

I have an incredibly hard time believing that members of the dwarfism community, especially active, militant ones, would've thought the best way to go was just removing little people altogether from the film. They probably presented plenty of proper solutions but Disney, as usual, just wanted to go for the dumbest option possible in order to keep whatever idiotic storyline they figured was best.

Disney’s track record with consulting X group is not a good one. Remember how Mulan was written and directed by Chinese/Chinese American? Oh wait, that didn’t happen. The director(a white lady from New Zealand) even stated “why can’t a woman direct Mulan?!” Even tho that wasn’t the criticism.

Sure enough…. There were a lot of cultural/historical inaccuracies to say the least.

I genuinely don't see a single good reason for casting actors who aren't little people. Sounds like a half-assed "solution" a group of dumbasses who aren't really listening decided to go with just so they'd shut the possible backlash. Have the dwarfs live in a village instead of the same house, humanize the characters & don't make stupid jokes about them being small, and there you have 7 roles in a big budget Disney film for people who are never even considered for such massive gigs. You don't correct things by diminishing opportunities for people who barely get them already.

If they lived in a village it would be a perfect excuse to design their houses to fit each personality type. Kinda like the tour bus from the Spice Girls movie. Missed opportunity :(
