GUILLERMO DEL TORO says his filmmaking future will solely be dedicated to making animated films:

“There are a couple more live-action movies I want to do but not many. After that, I only want to do animation. That’s the plan”https://t.co/rKsm5OFy1s pic.twitter.com/vhe9nxi47u

Of the three ~amigos...is Innaritu the only one considered to be not white? The other two look very white to me, but in some places I'm sure Innaritu could pass as white too.

This makes me so sad to hear. I know sometimes he swings high but I enjoy his film making and the man has a Best Picture Oscar live action and a Best Picture animated.

1/2 SCREENPLAYS I have developed, fully written or co-written that have gone unproduced (so far):
THE WITCHES, JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS, FANTASTIC VOYAGE, THE COUNT OF MONTECRISTO, MEPHISTO'S BRIDGE, PACIFIC RIM 2 (very different),

2/2 SECRET PROJECT (UNTITLED), SUPERSTITIOUS, NIGHTMARE ALLEY, HAUNTED MANSION, THE HULK pilot, THE BURIED GIANT, THE COFFIN, DROOD, LIST OF 7 (Mark Frost) and a few others...

More 🧵 [Spoiler (click to open)]

The thing is- each script takes about a year, so- more than a decade of work lost (in the case of mountains, much more, since we scoiuted and designed etc)

Oh, and WIND IN THE WILLOWS (which I loved)

I'm still SO sad his Justice League Dark will never see the light of day. It would have been incredible, I just know it. I'm also curious about what his Pacific Rim 2 looked like because I couldn't even finish that movie, it was terrible imho.

" I'm also curious about what his Pacific Rim 2 looked like"

Same. I can't even remember if I watch Pacific Rim 2 but the casting for the first one will never not annoy the shit out of me. They're in Hong Kong and literally not a single local in a position of power is Asian but all their dialogue-less underlings and civilians are. The only Chinese characters are the triplets and they didn't even have lines, let alone distinct personalities. They were all set-dressing at the "expense" of diversity.

I really wish he would be able to make At The Mountains of Madness, too. The only really good Lovecraft adaptation I've ever seen is a weird indie film that was made of The Call of Cthulhu in the style of a 1920s silent film. (Color Out of Space IMO wasn't bad but kind of meh.)

Did I ... miss the "shots" he took?

Like, a statement that he wants to do animated movies exclusively in the future and some whining that no studio is interested in what he currently has to offer is hardly some hard-hitting, truth to power reveal.

The post title is very weird because what he’s really saying is that despite having an award winning career, multiple live action projects have been declined even since winning an Oscar *this year*, so he’ll focus on animated because he’s not getting the green light to do other projects.

I was gonna use "bemoans" instead, but I already used it for a scorsese post once. Lol

Either way, the fact that even these two guys find it hard to make a movie now, should really highlight how bad the industry is right now.

He's not White American so I think that might factor into it as well. Hollywood nepotism only works for a very specific circle.

and instead the russo brothers can make a 300 million dollar flop and still be renewed?

I need the industry to stop acting like them being a hired hand for marvel means they actually have talent. They were mostly known for you me and Dupree prior to being picked for marvel.

Winter Soldier being well reviewed was a fluke at this point
