“Obviously, nothing against the Brits, but we’re living in a really weird time now. I think when people look back on this era of cinema and it’s just all these British actors pretending to be Americans and all these Australian actors pretending to be Americans, it’s like phantoms. Nobody is acting in their own voice ( ... )

I mean tbh I did find it weird that the March Sisters in the latest iteration of Little Women were all played by non-Americans (and you could hear it in Saoirse's accent, I don't know what that was supposed to be but mid-19th century American it was not, and Emma Watson was even worse). Not to gatekeep, but was there really no young American female talent to be found?

With the exception of Gwyneth as Emma and Reese as Becky Sharp decades ago, I don't think we really see the reverse happening, where Americans play classic British literary roles like Lizzie Bennett or Jane Eyre.

yeah theres an argument to be had about the small pool of people Hollywood looks to cast, and even when it looks like they are "expanding" that pool internationally with brits, it tends to be of the posh sort, no? so its still a very selective pool that overlooks the marginalized.

I do think cinema and shared experience might improve the enjoyment of a movie compared to watching it alone at home.

the problem is that they are made for that quick netflix watch. it lacks quality it's just going along to get along. is this movie not 2 hours? are there not explosions? do you not know who this famous actor is? alright well shut the fuck up and give me your 18 dollars. that's the problem. cuz we all enjoy films at home it's just a higher bar and it shows.

Meanwhile even before covid I would go to the 10am showing on a Monday to ensure that I didn’t have to deal with people eating, talking, texting, etc.

Same. I hate watching movies with other people for the most part. There are a few exceptions like I plan to see the Barbie movie open day at night, but those exceptions are rare

He's not wrong. I'm vaguely aware that RR makes movies for Netflix but I don't know anything about them and I don't know anyone who watches them.
Also, RR is making 50 million per movie? WTF???
