Simon Kinberg wrote X-Men: The Last Stand, which was universally panned, then 13 years later wrote and directed Dark Phoenix. He got a second chance to make the same story again even though he fucked it up the first time!
Truly one of the wildest examples of how men fail upwards I've ever seen.

I think it's been 7 years. I thought Patricia Riggen's the 33 was the most recent one but checking her imdb she directed some weird christian movie Sony distributed in 2016.
