This season's been such a dud. There's maybe like one or two things I've enjoyed, while everything else either bored or made me roll my eyes. It's sad that this show has become a caricature of itself, while the main star is obviously sorting out his private life through the show. We'll always have season one and the show will remain a limited series for me.

Really?! I feel like it's so good compared to S2! I still like S1 the best but I am really loving this one, especially the last few episodes. I feel like the writers have been committed to turning toxic masculinity on its head but it doesn't feel forced. I love it

I honestly agree. But, tbh, I feel like people elevated this show too much to begin with. It's always been a little corny and saccharine when addressing issues but that's OK! Sometimes all you want is a feel good, comforting show.

Yeah and tbh at the beginning of the season it did feel too meta and self-aware but I feel like it found its footing and got deep again the last few episodes.

Plus, gonna be real, Trent Crimm, The Independent™ having a bigger part has been a huge plus for me lol

Hard agree about Nate.

Agreed about Nate - the show is telling us that Jade has a great bullshit detector and is able to easily suss out what kind of character she's dealing with and her liking Nate and investing time in him means that he's likable and good and worth investing time in. Which, I guess would be fine if that's the ultimate takeaway but it seems like Nate is reaping all the rewards of his bad behavior without having to answer for it at all, and the storyline isn't really testing him. Of course Nate is going to be nice to Jade, because he wants a girlfriend and wants her to like him and so far she's doing what he wants, so he has no reason to challenge his learned behaviors that got him to this place ( ... )

this was an okay episode outside of the Nate stuff but it also reminded me of any given season 3 episode of Glee. I appreciate them tackling sensitive subjects I guess but it just feels like they feel an obligation to Say Something now that they’re super popular

So apparently most of Nate's redemption revolves around Jade? I'm not a fan of the whole "this asshole just needs the love of a good woman to stop being such a jerk" storyline. It's really annoying in this particular instance because he didn't realize Rupert was a huge prick until he tried to hook Nate up with randos for a second time. Like THAT'S what it takes to open your eyes? Okay then.

I think the point is that Nate needed to make one real friend (that wasnt part of Ted’s circle, where he thought of himself as the charity case) in order to realize he really just wants human connection.

I wish they had just given him a friend instead of a girlfriend. But whatever.

A good woman with absolutely no connection to the plot or characteristics beyond her relationship with Nate, to boot.

She was cold to him until her pity date and now they're a thing? IDK, it just rubs me the complete wrong way. To the writers, she's a trophy and a plot device, not a person.

This episode was fine? Better than most of the season, but overall season three still feels like a step down in quality and storytelling.

Sometimes I wonder how much of this is simply the natural evolution of the show vs Bill Lawrence stepping back/Sudekis taking over most if the creative control. Maybe I know too much about Jason, but I can’t help feeling like he’s projected a lot of his personal circumstance onto the show.
