This season's been such a dud. There's maybe like one or two things I've enjoyed, while everything else either bored or made me roll my eyes. It's sad that this show has become a caricature of itself, while the main star is obviously sorting out his private life through the show. We'll always have season one and the show will remain a limited series for me.
Really?! I feel like it's so good compared to S2! I still like S1 the best but I am really loving this one, especially the last few episodes. I feel like the writers have been committed to turning toxic masculinity on its head but it doesn't feel forced. I love it
I honestly agree. But, tbh, I feel like people elevated this show too much to begin with. It's always been a little corny and saccharine when addressing issues but that's OK! Sometimes all you want is a feel good, comforting show.
Yeah and tbh at the beginning of the season it did feel too meta and self-aware but I feel like it found its footing and got deep again the last few episodes.
Plus, gonna be real, Trent Crimm, The Independent™ having a bigger part has been a huge plus for me lol
I think season one was better than this one but not miles better, tbh! My theory with this show's success has always been that people wanted to watch something nice after dealing with the absolute insanity of the first months with COVID. IMO, it was always just a sweet show that had immense success because it was the exact levity people needed at the time.
I mean it def had a bit of a sophomore slump and apparently there were lots of rewrites to this season but I think people are being a bit too hard on it! Like you said, season one was better but I think some people want to tie Jason Sudekisis' personal life to the way this season has played out and that doesn't track for me. It just seems like a show that had a unexpectedly great reception in S1, hit a bit of a road bump in S2, and is trying to find it's footing in S3.
I totally agree with your point about Jason’s personal life-other than his ex-wife dating someone else, which seems like a perfectly predictable plot point, why do people think he’s inserting his personal life into the show?
For drama. I saw someone claim Sudeikis is using the character to 'rehab his image' and like...where? Ted is a mess this season and his ex wife is not painted negatively at all. Sometimes a show is just a show, lol.
Yeah I think a lot of the success is that during s1 people wanted a nice funny feel good show after dealing with Covid. I don’t think s2 and this season are terrible but they don’t have that same feeling of excitement.
Yeah, I agree!! While I do think the writing isn’t quite as sharp this season, I still think it’s a very enjoyable show. I love the characters, and I just like having such a cheerful, wholesome, sweet show in my life.
At least for me what made S1 special and felt heartwarming and endearing now seems cringey and forced. I mean the entire locker room scene with the guys in the previous episode felt like an after school special. The show's been all over the place since S2, but that's what happens when the show becomes a huge success and writers start catering to the audience.

Lol it’s true! It’s just a show, guys. It’s not that deep.

I had to go find the tweet to confirm its silliness but, ngl, I like some of that writer's work but she often seems to overdramatize
