Agreed about Nate - the show is telling us that Jade has a great bullshit detector and is able to easily suss out what kind of character she's dealing with and her liking Nate and investing time in him means that he's likable and good and worth investing time in. Which, I guess would be fine if that's the ultimate takeaway but it seems like Nate is reaping all the rewards of his bad behavior without having to answer for it at all, and the storyline isn't really testing him. Of course Nate is going to be nice to Jade, because he wants a girlfriend and wants her to like him and so far she's doing what he wants, so he has no reason to challenge his learned behaviors that got him to this place.
What little steps we've seen him make are kind of...not that great to me? It's easy for him to feel bad about what went on between him and Ted, because now he's Ted's equal professionally like he always believed he was. He realizes that the misses the camaraderie of the Diamond Dogs, but goes about recreating them not because he misses being part of that kind of team, but because he needs advice and is only interested in how that group could benefit him. Last night he was still snapping at who he thought was a delivery person getting his name wrong, before he realized it was Jade.
I would find this all much less frustrating if I thought the end result was Ted and Nate making amends and leaving it at that, but he's still engaging in this toxic behavior that made him insufferable to begin with, and Jade isn't fixing that. And I'm not even sure he won't resort back to that once she does something he doesn't like.
