WOC and Best Actress Nominations at the Academy Awards

It is honestly fairly shocking that after Michelle Yeoh's recent Best Actress win, only two WOC have won Best Actress at the Academy Awards. This is a look at the women who have been nominated for the award (still bleak).

Sandra Bullock winning over Gabourey Sidebe is a crime against humanity. I will forever be bitter about this.

I still haven’t seen Precious but I believe you. She beat Helen Mirren too.

Atrocious. Literally any other choice that year would have been better than the barely Lifetime-quality Blind Side.

I think they really needed a better campaign. The focus was so much on Mo'Nique. I remember watching an interview after the Oscars and wondering why they didn't have Gabby out everywhere before voting. I'm sure a lot of people just assumed since she was new to acting that her personality was the same as Precious, but she was so bubbly and happy and cheerful.

What a depressingly short list. The Academy should be ashamed but clearly they’re not.

this time two women in the same year

I wonder what the pundits of the day said back then...."woke", but with more slurs.

Idec who won in 1993. That statue should have been Angela's. And even when she finally does get one, I'll STILL be mad she wasn't rightly rewarded for What's Love Got to Do With It.

And I know this is about Best Actress, but while I'm at it, I'll continue to rage about Eddie Murphy not winning for Dreamgirls. I'm whatever about him as a person, but fuck, he deserved it for that performance

Saying she won for facial expressions is a weird take. It’s pretty impressive to deliver a performance without words. She was exceptional but I get why people wanted angela to win.
