That cottage. Yikes. If your dad and grandma had hundreds of millions of dollars each squirreled away after centuries of theft and pillaging you would be pressed to live in a cottage like that.

If you were a freeloader, sure?

Just because your family have millions doesn't mean you should feel entitled to mooch off of them.

I mean ... yes? That's what the monarchy is. They're all a bunch of freeloaders? It's not like the Queen or Charles did anything consummate to earning the amount of money they have gained over the years.

And lol at mooching. They're all fucking moochers.

Yes - but the Queen and Prince Charles weren't complaining about their status in the way that Harry is doing... and I have no empathy for him feeling 'pressed' at having to live in a small cottage, as you seem to.

People who stand on top of other people don't have anything to complain about.

I agree with that - which is why it makes even LESS sense that Harry is doing it.

Realistically all these people are pretty irrelevant and they are thieves. I suppose it doesn't really make much sense for me to complain about one leech getting less of the slice of the pie, but it just doesn't make sense to me except for the fact Megan Markle exists. I doubt this book would have come out if he'd married one of his white girlfriends.

I don't think that's the point. William had a Palace and they were put in a shack. It's not like Harry was the janitor's son. Why was he treated so differently?

And OP is wrong. Harry paid for the £2.4 million renovation of Frogmore. It's well documented.

"However, after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced in January 2020 that they intended to step down as senior working members of the royal family and move to North America, they "wished to repay Sovereign Grant expenditure for the refurbishment of Frogmore Cottage".[18] In September, that sum was settled in full by the Duke and his lease on the property was extended to March 2022.[19][20]"

lol come on, a fully functioning house on the grounds of a palace is hardly a shack. Also William and Kate lived there for 2 years until the birth of their kid after which Harry got it for his own personal use. That's well documented too.

Also they were only had to pay for Frogmore because they left as working royals. If they had stayed they would be allowed to grift completely free.

Grift? They were renters. The Crown benefited from renovations, they own the property, not Harry. Interesting you miss the point that Frogmore had been broken up into five apartments for servants and that's what they expected Harry and Meghan to live in.

Andrew, William and even Edward were given mansions to live in when they got married, not a dump that needed massive remodeling before it was fit to be lived in. William has 4 properties he's never paid for.

William and Kate spent most of those two years at their home in Wales. They only stayed in Nottingham cottage when they were visiting London. It wasn't their full time residence.

Are your ceilings so low you can't stand up straight? Do you have built in closets? Because they didn't.

Size is relative. It's possible to have a nice small home but that's not what NC was.

I wonder if there’s some cultural differences here, because Harry and Meghan also emphasised just how shocked and unbelievable their American celeb friends found the size of the cottage, but like the sizes of houses in the U.K. vs the US are *very* different?

I can’t at people on here acting like Harry and Meghan got put up in some shack, Kensington is one of the most expensive and exclusive areas in the entire country when it comes to house prices, most newlyweds would have been over the moon to be living in a cottage as nice as that. I mean once they got over their shock and heartbreak at not having build in closets that is lol, which is generally not even a thing in the U.K. anyway.

It sounds like some people are just projecting their own expectations of how fancy it would be to be a princess and live in the U.K. as part of the royal family, and so are feeling like Harry and Meghan surely must have been treated differently from the rest if they didn’t get their own shiny palace to stay in
