After Harry and Meghan got married, they were gifted the free use of Nottingham Cottage, which is 1,324 sq. feet, and then Frogmore Cottage, which has 10 bedrooms. However, Harry was quite upset that his furniture was not as nice as William's. After Will and Kate had renovated their apartment in Kensington Palace, Harry visited and felt his own situation was quite lacking:
"The wallpaper, the ceiling trim, the walnut bookshelves filled with volumes of peaceful colors, priceless works of art. Magnificent. Like a museum.”
“We congratulated them on the renovation without holding back the compliments while feeling embarrassed of our IKEA lamps and the second-hand sofa we’d recently bought on sale with Meg’s credit card on sofa.com.”
Will and Kate paid for their furnishings themselves, though the £4.5 million renovation was paid by taxpayers. Frogmore Cottage also received a taxpayer-funded £2.4 million renovation before Harry and Meghan moved in.
