I'm not sure what the demographic was for EEAO but I know for myself (eldest daughter in an Asian household), it really hit hard. There are a lot of things I felt when watching the film and it feels like a really personal story for a lot of people who might share a similar background.

That being said, I can understand why it might not resonate with people but-- I am really happy it is a contender.

i’m not asian but i am an eldest daughter with an Intense But Fraught Relationship With My Mom (and i’m puerto rican, so not technically an immigrant, but when we moved to the states my mom was a culturally non-american mom raising an american daughter) and when i tell u EEAAO had me bawling like a damn baby…. did you see turning red? a lot of Thematic Overlap and also turned me into a tears factory lol

I did see Turning Red! I had my issues with it but it definitely resonated with me as well. I cried in both so you're not alone lol

Hopefully the crying wasn't too sad. I know for me, when I cried, it was more of a "I feel seen" type of cry lmao

I feel like this movie needs to sweep the Oscars or I will get very disappointed

It will get nominated for sure, but I don't think it's gonna win a lot. Best actress hopefully, Supporting actor most certainly, editing, original score, maybe screenplay and the more technical awards though I doubt it considering Top Gun Maverick and Avatar are competing too. We'll see.

Yeah, it is competing in A LOT of tough categories. Right now supporting actor is looking good but all those other categories are really tough to get. I think Cate will win BA.

ugh Tar was awful though. Like yes she was amazing in it but I could've went to bed at 10 instead of staying up for that garbage movie lol

Critics Choice awards are about what the GG were pre-mega bribery reveal though. They nominate a shitton of things because they want stars to come to their show.

we are in the phase of this film's cycle now where you either think no other good movie has ever been made but this one OR it's the worst piece of shit you've ever seen
