I love Tar, but it being nominated for beat score is hilarious given that it barely has one and was DQed from the Oscars since the music is mostly classical pieces.

yeah that makes me mad considering Reznor and Ross had two great scores this season and zero noms!

tangent, but is anyone following that one lady from the uk on twitter who hates EEAAO bc she thinks it's unfair to the IRS? she's getting roasted in the replies/qrts lmfao.

Also the mean nasty IRS is evil (and ugly!) for trying to……. get a profitable business to pay its fair share of taxes and not write the owner’s hobbies off as business expenses

i know EEAAO stans can be a LOT - daniel kwan had to ask the fandom to not be assholes bc ppl were attacking critics for not having the movie in their "best of" lists - but lmfao this take ain't it. also, i never thought jamie lee curtis was supposed to be ugly, she's just unfashionable. are we (accountants) oppressed for being depicted as unfashionable nerds by hollywood? much to think about!

also sorry Americans I know none of us like paying taxes but it’s important and the tyranny of the small business owner is a real thing! it’s called class analysis sweeties, I’m sorry your brains have been broken by years of sitcoms portraying the IRS as ( ... )

I didn't really like that movie and I'm terrified of voicing that opinion on any platform attached to my name. People have different reactions to movies. Not everyone's interpretation will be the same. There is almost never a "right" or "wrong". So anyway.

I mean, liking or disliking a fictional movie is one thing, and I agree that people should be allowed to have opinions without getting yelled at, but defending the ACTUAL IRS is a horse of a different color lbr

not to mention her tweet interpreting the movie as saying it's okay to treat family members poorly bc of generational trauma... like, we aren't supposed to be on evelyn's side in how she treats her husband and daughter. a fundamental point of her character arc is learning how to break past that trauma and treat the people in her life better as a result??

From what I remember it was a very mixed bag, a lot of people thought it was trying to be too intelligent. I feel like that's a common response to horror movies though, like even if they aren't super serious films a lot of horror fantasy movies lose out on not being in your face jump scares

I thought it was really bad tbh.

I didn't think it was bad, just really long and kinda pointless but i thought the music, sound, acting, and cinematography were great!

Too much Babylon for my taste but at least Brad Pitt didn't get nominated.

Yay for Danielle Deadwyler (fuck you, HFPA), Paul Dano, Brian Tyree Henry, Stephanie Hsu, and Gabriel LaBelle!
