tangent, but is anyone following that one lady from the uk on twitter who hates EEAAO bc she thinks it's unfair to the IRS? she's getting roasted in the replies/qrts lmfao.

Also the mean nasty IRS is evil (and ugly!) for trying to……. get a profitable business to pay its fair share of taxes and not write the owner’s hobbies off as business expenses

i know EEAAO stans can be a LOT - daniel kwan had to ask the fandom to not be assholes bc ppl were attacking critics for not having the movie in their "best of" lists - but lmfao this take ain't it. also, i never thought jamie lee curtis was supposed to be ugly, she's just unfashionable. are we (accountants) oppressed for being depicted as unfashionable nerds by hollywood? much to think about!

also sorry Americans I know none of us like paying taxes but it’s important and the tyranny of the small business owner is a real thing! it’s called class analysis sweeties, I’m sorry your brains have been broken by years of sitcoms portraying the IRS as vampires

and she's still going lol. imagine dickriding for the IRS this hard. who knew that being a struggling asian immigrant family living in cramped quarters above their laundromat could be so oppressive.

I didn't really like that movie and I'm terrified of voicing that opinion on any platform attached to my name. People have different reactions to movies. Not everyone's interpretation will be the same. There is almost never a "right" or "wrong". So anyway.

I mean, liking or disliking a fictional movie is one thing, and I agree that people should be allowed to have opinions without getting yelled at, but defending the ACTUAL IRS is a horse of a different color lbr

not to mention her tweet interpreting the movie as saying it's okay to treat family members poorly bc of generational trauma... like, we aren't supposed to be on evelyn's side in how she treats her husband and daughter. a fundamental point of her character arc is learning how to break past that trauma and treat the people in her life better as a result??

Even if you didn't like or didn't get all the zany universe-hopping scifi stuff, surely you can get that the movie is about [Spoiler (click to open)]Evelyn learning to repair her relationships with Waymond and Joy. And her dad, kinda. Like...on a very very basic level. This is turning into that Vine guy just not understanding Nope. lawd.

liking or disliking a movie is never right/wrong. however, there are absolutely valid/invalid interpretations of a movie, and that lady's interpretation is stupid as fuck. she's just doing the trendy thing where people want to morally justify their dislike.

i mean you should be terrified if your dislike is backed up by some of the worst reading of a film. you are free to dislike a movie and not like popular things. people just get irked when you position it as being a free thinker and then... the thinking is bad lol

you can dislike a film without defending the IRS!

I'm not anti-IRS so maybe that's the problem.

There were things I appreciated, but as a whole I didn't like it either.

Tyranny of the small business owner?? Am I just not understanding that correctly? Because it makes no sense, especially not in context of the film

She claims in her tweets that the family is successful as a point to say why their portrayal of stress is ridiculous so I think that says everything about her understanding of class struggle

Oh god. Painting small business owning immigrant families as the big bads of capitalist America really isn’t the liberal, socially progressive take she seems to think it is
