An enslaved man (Will Smith, National Hero) embarks on a perilous journey to reunite with his family in this powerful film inspired by a true story.

With Apple's other awards bait offerings falling short, they've decided to push their support behind this film, which was once thought to be delayed for reasons you at home can probably guess.

He'd have a shot at best actor but idk after the slap people are weird... plus he's banned from the ceremony for a few years, right?

Have they ever nominated someone banned from attending or has that even been a potential issue before?

I just want Brendan to get at least a nomination. Both Brendans, Fraser and Gleeson lol. In different categories obvs.

I think he can still be nominated.

I'm a little confused about the color grading in this trailer, but perhaps it will make more sense in the context of the film. Anyway, looks like it could be good - curious to see for myself!

Color grading for some of the oscar faves this year are weird - people keep complaining about women talking, too.

It looks hideous. I wonder if it's supposed to be some kind of commentary on black and white, but then make it full black and white. I'll be convinced if they give a reason for the color green to stand out and not the rest.

I will be pissed though if it turns full color after the family is reunited because that's just uninspired

will smith is a really talented actor when given the chance to be, this looks good.

i am prematurely exhausted for the discourse that will certainly come with will and the slap being revisited and all. i think the slap was a stupid move and not the way to handle shit, and i think chris was glib, and i don't look forward to more discourse about jada and will's open marriage, defending your wife, comedy, etc.

I like how they said 'enslaved man' instead of 'slave'.

So...it's not delayed/cancelled? Wasn't there just a lot of hand-wringing about that? Hmm.

idk man, I hardly think he deserves to have his career utterly ruined over Slapgate, but I'm curious how this would have played out if he'd just apologized right after it happened. And not the weird self-aggrandizing "sometimes men have to do brave man things!" non-apology from his Oscar speech or the delayed social media thing, but just a regular old "that was an overreaction, I shouldn't have stolen Summer of Love's moment, I apologize to Chris" normal one.

Honestly? I think it would’ve been better if he’d just left the ceremony/theatre after the slap, and of his own volition.
I think then it could’ve looked more like, he somehow broke in that moment or decided he couldn’t be there, etc., or even that he took responsibility for the slap but was willing to stand behind it lol. Him going back to his seat and then weirdly laughing agreeably again added to the weirdness of everything and the confused discourse afterward where it was like, he was either correct or not. If that makes any sense.
Then, because he had taken himself out of the situation, it’s almost as though he could’ve made a smoother return.

I think the fact that he went to the Vanity Fair party right after rubbed a lot of people the wrong way along with killing the vibe for all of the winners after him.

He literally did apologize the following Monday - twitter post

It feels like everyone is expecting a specific type of apology which will ultimately not please anyone because its missing an element or two for their liking.
