So...it's not delayed/cancelled? Wasn't there just a lot of hand-wringing about that? Hmm.

idk man, I hardly think he deserves to have his career utterly ruined over Slapgate, but I'm curious how this would have played out if he'd just apologized right after it happened. And not the weird self-aggrandizing "sometimes men have to do brave man things!" non-apology from his Oscar speech or the delayed social media thing, but just a regular old "that was an overreaction, I shouldn't have stolen Summer of Love's moment, I apologize to Chris" normal one.

Honestly? I think it would’ve been better if he’d just left the ceremony/theatre after the slap, and of his own volition.
I think then it could’ve looked more like, he somehow broke in that moment or decided he couldn’t be there, etc., or even that he took responsibility for the slap but was willing to stand behind it lol. Him going back to his seat and then weirdly laughing agreeably again added to the weirdness of everything and the confused discourse afterward where it was like, he was either correct or not. If that makes any sense.
Then, because he had taken himself out of the situation, it’s almost as though he could’ve made a smoother return.

I think the fact that he went to the Vanity Fair party right after rubbed a lot of people the wrong way along with killing the vibe for all of the winners after him.

He literally did apologize the following Monday - twitter post

It feels like everyone is expecting a specific type of apology which will ultimately not please anyone because its missing an element or two for their liking.

Yeah, he apologised unreservedly and took responsibility for his actions. But that’s never going to be good enough - people want to see him shamed and broken. And we all know why.
