This is my thought too. I’ve known people who no matter what, will support/defend their family, right or wrong, and it’s a complex situation to be in.
She’s not wrong that the police/prison system is broken beyond repair, and no one seems to want to do anything about it.

Yeah my uncle stole money from a lot of people, including his own sister (my mum) which led to other families basically going bankrupt but if you mention anything to his grown ass daughter, she storms out like a little kid

Because while he did a very shitty thing, he committed a non-violent crime. He could be punished without being jailed.

A friend of mine is a social worker, but used to be a probation officer. He said probation is less about getting people back on track to a healthy life, it was more playing gotcha for probation violations. He hated the job because he knew he wasn’t helping these people in ways they could be helped. He thought he would be helping his clients connect with needed services and help them be better. Instead it was making sure they came in every few weeks to piss in a cup.
