Jurnee Smollett has come out in support of her brother Jussie, one day after he was sentenced to 150 days in prison for staging a hate crime in Chicago in 2019.

Taking to her Instagram, the Lovecraft Country actress wrote, "Black Americans are incarcerated in state prisons at nearly five times the rate of White Americans. Jussie is innocent. And... you don't have to believe in his innocence to believe he should be free."

Jussie also maintains his innocence, having stated following his sentencing that he "could have said, 'I am guilty,' a long time ago."
