June is ready to tear the Waterfords to shreds in court, the others seem a bit worried though because she seems very consumed by her justified anger. We'll see what's going on with Lydia and Janine.

Let me guess. Gilead is gonna threaten her kid AGAIN and she will change her mind about saying anything just as she was about to open her mouth*

* these storylines have been done to death (haven’t seen the last episode yet)

[Spoiler (click to open)]There was a spoiler/review of a 7+ minute monologue that she does, and I think it's when she testifies. Also, there are brief synopses for the remaining episodes now that have a bit new info.

Synopses for episodes 8-10:

[Spoiler (click to open)]Episode 8 "Testimony" - June confronts Fred and Serena in court and challenges Emily to face a painful reminder of her Gilead past. Lawrence presents Aunt Lydia with a newly captured, familiar Handmaid.

Episode 9 "Progress" - June and Luke work together to save Hannah, reaching out to Lawrence and Nick for help. Serena and Fred greet unexpected visitors from Gilead. Janine tries to assist Aunt Lydia when a Handmaid-in-training goes on a hunger strike at the Red Center.

Episode 10 "The Wilderness" - June objects to Fred’s plea bargain agreement and struggles to accept his pending freedom. She draws on all her resources and relationships, risking everything to ensure her own kind of justice.

hmm. Do you care about bleak stories in which women are treated unfairly and there is little hope? If you said yes then this is the series for you

it has great casting.

It has some moments of great storytelling and even better acting. However, overall it’s quite bleak and depressing and by the 4th season there are few likable characters left.

I stopped watching midway episode 3 of this season.... was her being recaptured and tortured a necessary episode?! Ugh 😒

I guess she needed the extra layer of suffering by seeing her daughter being scared of her (though I am on the fence about that, because Hannah was put in some glas box, that alone probably was scary for her, and who knows what lies they told her about June before), cause she needs even more trauma -.-

Re: 'that scene' from last week's episode

[Spoiler (click to open)]the amount of discourse i've seen elsewhere saying it wasn't rape because 1)luke could have stopped her 2)he wanted it eventually, maybe not that moment but he would have 3) he knew its what she wanted, despite not wanting to himself 4) excusing it because 'something similar happened to me and i dont consider it rape' 5) he said wait and not stop

.... sometimes its like do you HEAR the words coming out of your mouth. Like, there are ~different degrees to rape and June did the least one, well at the end of the day... it's still rape.

June has been a very hard protagonist to watch for the last 2 seasons, the episode did not help her case. I am vastly more interested in all the other characters.

Yeah a friend of mine said similar things to me when I called out that scene and I could not. Yes, she’s a victim and has gone through fucked up shit. While that may provide some context for that scene, it does not excuse the behavior. Victims going on to victimize others is sadly not uncommon and should not be brushed off.

[Spoiler (click to open)]I haven't seen any discourse about it yet but I figured that would be quite some of it. Fuck everyone who came out with statemens like 1-3&5. For 4 I hope they in time will, with professional help, work through their situation and think differently about this scene.

Agreed, even though in the beginning and up until her meeting with Serena here scenes had me interested in her more they did that and I was out again.

I thought that it was very telling that during June's voiceover, when they were showing her and Luke and the baby on the screen, it was all smiles and happiness until she said the word "rape." Luke's face was on the screen and his expression just immediately dropped when June turned away from him.

Random thoughts...

Mark is annoying. He is constantly letting Serena manipulate him and it just makes him look incredibly naive and stupid.

The writers continuously trying to make Serena ~complex~ and ~layered~ is a no go for me. She is just as much of a monster as Fred and I want them both to rot.

I like Luke and Moira and the little rapport they’ve developed. Id like to see more of them. And just them.

At this point I’m convinced that the show really doesn’t want us to like June.

I read a theory about Mark playing everyone, and that his actions re: June in the last episode were him deliberately trying to push Fred and Serena together by knowing June would snap at Serena, so that he could use them against each other. But I don't think the writers are smart enough to pull it off. It really does seem like he's letting Serena manipulate him.

That sounds interesting, what would his goal be if he plays everyone?
